No direct experience of RX7 diffs - are they known to be fragile?
Only ones I have had trouble with (Salisbury LSDs) have always got continuously noisy as they got ready to give up (your grinding noise?) rather than just started knocking in time with the wheel rotation. Prop and drive shaft joints on the other hand do knock when they give up and they are going round and round too - some of them at exactly the same rate as the wheels! Got to be worth checking them first before pronouncing  the diff dead?  Can you hear the diff clicking at all if you put the car on full lock and move off with one rear wheel lightly loaded?

hmmm dunno mate ;) i\'m in 2 minds as to whether to take it to the garage who did all my repairs to have a look at FOC (although unless it\'s a simple mishap nothing they will be able to do) or since i\'ve already sent cheque off for diff just wait till i can get up to see Pip in 10 days.....
Basically what\'s the thoughts on driving: may lead to sumin terminal ie just keep it garaged till i need to drive it to Pip, or should be OK to drive (gently;)) on either slightly dodgy diff &/or driveshaft, UV etc?

LSHINS
Turns out it wasn\'t diff after all (soon to be followed by reasons why Si whould never be asked technical questions )....despite supposedly checking for loose bits the other weekend after getting down & ready to do diff noticed rear passenger side wheel was a bit (AKA all but 1 nut ) loose reattach exhaust before getting to diff & box & tighten up nuts on wheel = winner we have no more wierd clunking noisy at a variety of speeds :bandit
Quite scarey in one way but i suppose it\'s good in another in that i now have a spare 1.5 KAAZ dif if it should take my fancy....decisions decisions i can get it fitted free or stay with standard diff & either have a spare uprated one or sell it on for the cash i could use hmmm oh well still not a bad position to be in,no not in a trying to rival melting dashboard archbish antics of a stupid nature pmsl

picked it up at the weekend from the man with the V8 plan so not new no but dont think it has much milage & pah i think i\'ll keep it anyway cause i\'m a greedy sod & will probably not be able to resist stiking it on me car just to see what it\'s like although one of the mechanics did have a fiddle & after working out it would lock up reckoned i\'d crash it again although he did have money on me crashing within a week of me getting car back last year :rollin lol
