Hi there guys.

My names Dan and i live in swindon + im only 24, currantly own a Pug 106 Gti that i\'ve have for four years. Hoping to move onto an rx-7 gen 3 but i see so many varients and things i dont know which is which. R, R2, Elfini...etc..

Really having trouble knowing what the hell i\'m looking at.

tried to get a quote today on a (random 95 rx-7) guy on the phone said £950 for Rx-7 turbo, group 19.....yet i\'m after a twin turbo which will be group 20 which he said will cost me £2100 to insure  .(thats with larger wheels)

I didnt think there was a single turbo version? also he said almost all twin turbo\'s are imports which helps bump the insurance.

Any of this sound about right, really not sure what im doing at the moment.....

someone help!! plz!

what can i say, i love these cars and reaaaalllly want 1, but which!

by the way do any come with leather?

You\'re right... well, not a standard 3rd gen, anyway. The 2nd gen T2 was single turbo, and that\'s why you only got quoted £950.

Trouble is, insurance companies seem to have real problems when it comes to the RX-7. If it\'s not a confusion over engine capacity, it\'s them not knowing that there\'s no such thing as a single turbo built after about \'91... mucho confusion.

All 3rd gens are twin turbo (unless they\'re modified :D), and yeah, most of them are imports so are gonna be real heavy on the insurance. At least you\'re 24. I\'ve just ordered my 3rd gen from an importer, and I\'m 21. Insurance is going to hurt, badly, but I\'ve spent the last 8 months reading about, researching, and generally drooling over these cars and their awesome rotary engine. I figure it\'s going to be worth every penny :)

As for what\'s what, try doing what I did, and read... a lot! :) This message board contains a lot of useful information already, just run some searches. There is a post out there about a mile long containing everything you ever wanted to know, and a whole lot more, about the 3rd gen variants and revisions. I would also suggest making sure you know what you\'re getting into before buying one. The rotary engine is little understood in this country right now, most mechanics won\'t touch \'em. They\'re also easy to break if you don\'t know what you\'re doing, although superbly reliable if you do.

hehe, short answer would be that any 3rd gen you get will rock. :D If you buy through an importer, you can always ask them to get one with leather, aircon, and any other extras you might want. The differences between the models are fairly minor anyway, it\'s not like they have different engine sizes or anything, and any unmodified import will see you with between 255 and 280 horses. If you plan on modifying it at all, then the differences between models becomes even less important.

You should have no trouble finding one with leather seats and aircon, anyway :)

If you\'re recommending them, I\'m sure they\'re good, but just one question. They seem to be based in London... how come the website is entirely in Japanese? Being the typical, uncultured British youth, I can\'t understand a word of it. :)

bnaellis

It\'s a Japanese company that specialise in Jap cars.
I know someone who has cheap insurance with them, and I have
been advised that being a Jap specialist company they do very good quotes even with aftermarket stuff. A phone call don\'t hurt as much as 2k+ premiums do.
