When i joined the club last year i had an FD,  most of the people on here also had FD\'s.  Although most people still seem to own FD\'s  (obviously a lot more of them)  there definately seem to be more FC owners on here who are modifying them than their used to be.

I have recently sold my FD and bought my 3rd Turbo II,  is it because they represent great value for money?, or are people going back, like me to the 2nd Gen,  (i also have a first gen but it scares me).

Most will probably agree that FD\'s are beautiful looking cars and in just about most departments they will out perform the FC in breaking, handling and performance,  i mean a TII has got to have some pretty good mods to match a stock FD.

From a refined point of view i find a modified TII is a little more user friendly than a single turbo FD,  mine used to make my ears bleed! Also a stock FC is incredibly smooth.

Now i have taken both models apart and modified both heavily, i find the 2nd gen much easier to work on,  although i think the FD will always win with perofrmance battle due to the weight difference (anyone know what it is??)

Also there is hardly any difference between the actual engine block on the two,  i have done almost exactly the same porting and bits on this TII that i did to my FD so it will interesting to see what performance differences i get.

Anyway,  just wanted your thoughts, and wondered why more people are modifying the TII than before,  or maybe they are not and i am imagining it?.

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

the fd is about 30kg heavier in its lightest form. and i have to agree that there is more t 2 people on here now. i think there geting a bit classic car status. and as you pointed out you get good perf for your money.

i like mine:D

lol, i have loved the t2 since i had my little run around toyota mr2 a few years ago, i just love retro cars and for everything that comes with the looks thay are awsome cars indeed. i must admit i have seen more fc\'s about lately than ever before.

Brett

Its the time of year, plus the value has dropped a hell of a lot recently so they are dropping into a lot of peoples \'2nd car\' bracket as a cheap bit of fun.

For me it\'s the price of the cars.........

I\'ve had a couple MKIV Supra\'s with big power, 2 Impreza\'s among others and always Japanesse. (except one E46 330i, sorry)

I can now have 3 of these cars including one with serious mods to be used as a part time toy, also have em all insured for the price of one of my Supra\'s!! ;)

It\'s also a different ball game as I knew sod all about the Rx7 and their engines etc. So it\'s good learning them.
I was actually one of those that said they were disposable cars(engines) etc..   Ignorance because of lack of knowledge basically!

Loverly little cars I must say, hopefully I stick around long with these as the cost factors are very nice indeed, well compared to my previous experiences with other marques.......

Well thats the misconception that FCs were heavier then FDs, but having dug around different web sites, the Curb weight of FCs depending on Spec range from 1180KGs up to 1290KGs for the turbo.

The lightest FD I could find is about 1240KGs up to 1320KG for the heavy UK spec .

So both models much of a muchness in terms of weight

The FD has better weight distribution than the FC due to the positioning of the engine. But in terms of weight theres not a lot in it.

BTW what is the official 0-60 time of the FC TII is it 6.7 or 6.2?

Seen both bandied around a great deal.  I always thought it was 6.7.

I have always been into sports cars too and have owned a few, i mainly got interested when i brought my 1st MR2 SW20 then i brought another and modded it, must throw a piccie on here it did look pretty cool. First time i started looking into RX7\'s though was 2years back when my operations manager turned upto a meeting in one a TII and i was well impressed, as he knew i was into my fast cars he took me for a spin.......I WAS HOOKED. Couple of weeks later sold my pride and joy, my modded MR2 and brought a stock TII. Now i got my 2nd and am still as hooked as the day my boss took me out. Also they are well priced and rare as feck, i mean how many do you see on a daily basis compared to other cars. I have learnt alot about the car but still got a heck of a lot left and will prob always have an RX7 in the garage!

Plus from joining this site and browsing others i think that the community of RX7 owners is the best by far, people who own them own them for a reason, not just cause its a car and this makes me ONE PROUD OWNER :)

I started with an FD about 2 years ago, like most i knew nothing about rotarys but loved the look of the FD and i had the money to buy one. At the time if you did a search on ebay for "rx7" you got maybe 2 max 3 pages, now check it out its like 9 +. Also no one in my town had one and its quite a big town but now you see a few around, so FD,s kinda lost that individual touch. So FC it was, loads cheaper and just as modifyable, was intially after a coupe but then thought why not have a convertible, would have loved an FD if they did a convertible.
One year later and the project is gathering speed, should be finished mid summer.
I agree with most that the FD is probably the easier of the two to drive fast, but with the right mods, a well sorted FC will be a good match for a near stock FD and you will probably still have some cash in the pocket.

when i first looked at the t2 i read it was 6.3
same as a lotus espirt turbo. i later read the 6.7 time.
i think it was road and track that had one as a long term test car and they timed 6.7 to 60 and just over 15s  1/4 mile. after it had done some miles and loosened up, the times droped to 6.3 and just under 15s  1/4s

Brett

Thanks for the info T2REW.

I\'m wondering if maybe we should all get a descreet little sticker made up for our FC\'s, saying something detrimantal and childish about 3rd gen owners.....? :bandit
