Hi

Can any one tell me if my RB Bathurst Japanese import on 96 plate has a damp valve fitted as standard.  I hear it ( and I hope that that all it is) when changing gears when the car is pushed to its limits. I  hear a distinctive metallic / release sound which I heard when I was test riving other RX7s with damp valves visibly fitted.  I do not see any post production damp valves under my bonnet.  It generally happens on the change from 2nd to 3rd at around 8000 revs (generally racing an M3 or some other German junk)

You do have a BOV as standard buts its a circulating-type in that it feeds back into the inlet tract; do you have an induction kit fitted? if yes, then the BOV is in likeliness no longer \'plumbed back\', hence you can hear it a lot more audibly than u can otherwise. Got a picture of your engine bay?

would that make the same noise as damp valves I have seen fitted on RX7s ?  Is it standard on my model ?

As far as I\'m aware there is no such thing as a damp valve.

The dump valve is use to release (dump) air pressure, when you close the throttle. This means the turbos don\'t have to stop spinning so quickly, allowing less turbo lag and less wear on the turbos.

Not the best pic but if you have a standard dump valve it will be located here and is made of black plastic, aftermarket ones tend to be shiney :D

Thanks for the image, I even printed the image and took it to my car to have a look and the bit which is marked by you does not exist on my car...
I will be going to Rotechnics to get my fog light build in so I will ask some questions...
It certainly sound like I have some form of BOV , but I can not see it...The car has been imported form Japan with some but few mods so yopu never know what really has been done.  The engine was rebuilt by RX Motors 15 months a go, maybe I should ask them….

No prob, if your enjoying playing detective, look at the pics in this thread below, see the 2nd pic with the red circle around it?? Well the metal bit sticking out to the left of it with the big hole at the end??

There will be a rubber tube connecting to that, if you can follow that tube you should be able to find your dump valve, if not, if you look in picture 7, at the very top left of the picture on the intake manifold (the silver ribbed bumpy bit the middle back of your engine bay, well there should be a thin tube coming from that like you can see in my picture, that is the tube that will also connect to any dump valve you may have, so trace either of the rubber pipes i mentioned in those pictures and you should be able to find the buggar!

I found it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You definately know your stuff !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Many thanks.  It is made by blitz it looks new and very shiny.  It almost looks like a sort of a trumpet.  One bit atchattached to thin tube and the rest sits on a bigger tube.
Does it make the car any faster ?.  How much does it cost ? It certanley  feels like when the gear is changed it picks up some sort of turbo activity very fast.

Oedipus Rex

it doesn\'t make your car faster but it does make your car respond to accelleration faster. Because it can dump a lot of pressure very quickly when you ease off the pedal, the turbos can keep spinning, with out creating too much boost pressure. This means that when you put your foot down again, the turbos are still spinning so your boost pressure builds up faster, creating better acceleration.

thanks for all the help guys

venomturbine

and what about the adjusting?

i replace the two stock bovs
install two small monzas

how should i adjust this two?
is one for high and one for low rmb
or are both turbos running same time?

Oedipus Rex

as far as I\'m aware the FD only has one dump Valve. You have two turbos but only one system.
