I\'m just trying to sort out insurance for an RX7. Can anyone confirm what the years of manufacture were for the 2nd and 3rd gen models? ie when they started and stopped making each model.

Reason being, I\'m using an online calculator, and it seems to have 4 categories for an imported RX7, namely:

"Turbo Coupe (IMP)" - "2616cc 2 door 1986 -- "
"Turbo Inj (IMP)" - "2354cc saloon 1992 --"
"Twin Turbo (IMP)" - "2354cc 1989 --"
"TwinTurbo Import" - "2616cc 1990 --"

All of which give wildly differing premiums (by a factor of 100% between the cheapest and most expensive).

I\'m thinking that feasibly, a \'94 FD could fit into any of those categories (except perhaps the \'saloon\' one, although surely there\'s never been an RX7 \'saloon\')? None of the engine capacities seem to be accurate, not surprising considering it\'s a rotary. The insurance company presumably hasn\'t just plucked the different models out of thin air, but as far as I can tell they don\'t bear any actual relevance to RX7 models in reality, so I\'d be tempted just to pick the one that gives me the lowest premium. Has anyone else had a similar experience, and were there any potential ramifications?

Cheers for any help

Update: thought I had it pegged as the bottom (most expensive :( ) one. Then took a look on Egg to get a rival quote, which asks for the date (\'94 - as far as I know FCs weren\'t made by then), then gives you the option of Type R, Type RB, or type RS - all of which come up as 2354cc. Which would suggest it\'s the third one on the first list.

More and more confused - want to get the best deal, but don\'t want my insurance company to turn round and invalidate the policy if I need to make a claim on the basis that I didn\'t put in the proper car details...

Weclome to the problem.

Half the insurance companies dont list it, or list it incorrectly and you never know what to do.

If you say its 2616 then they are bound to not have that on their records.  And vice versa of course lol.

Sorry I cant help, but this isnt an uncommon problem.

Give Adrian flux a call, or one of the others on the list in this section.

Tried Adrian Flux, they quoted me £3400. The most expensive of the four categories on Elephant was £1800. Will have a ring round some of the others tomorrow I guess.

I know CLive sorted out a deal with AON for members. We have a direct contact there. The guy knows his rx\'s  and gave me a great deal. Highly advisable.
