Oedipus Rex

Hi folks.

quick question, what should I be looking at as the max water temp for my rex to be running at.

After looking on my commander today after a run out, the water temp was at 94C. Is this ok or too hot?

cheers.

hi
i think but some one with more technical knowings will correct me if wrong that 94 is about right for normal running mine varies between 94 to 98c

my fans are set to come on at 94deg on pfc but i am running single turbo not sure what good temp is as u want the engine to reach operation temp and thermostat i think opens around the 80-82 deg mark on cruise mine hovers between 86-90 but in traffic doesnttake long to pop onto 94deg and start the fans but i do have a big intercooler sitting in the way of airflow..depend on ur set up as i also have a larger rad 94 doesnt sound excessive if u were driving hard and the caught in traffic what temp do ur fans come on

cheers lads.

apparently up to around 105 is fine so I\'m not vexing at all.

In usual driving conditions you will see between 74 - 84oC, if stuff in heavy traffic its not uncommon to see 90 - 105oC, but if you see over 110oC watch it carefully if it creeps up to 115oC you need to stop and shut the car off ASAP :(

Yeah mine runs between 84 and 95 degrees according to my Commander. At 95 my fans comes on and it never goes above this although I\'ve only had my car since November and not had it in the summer hot weather yet.
Its suprising how quick the water and oil temperature creep up when you are sat in traffic although once moving they drop down again.

Is there anything you can do to keep the water temps lower? Any particular type of coolant like water wetter etc?

Gurj, Is the water temp creeping up to 105 and having to shut the car off common in the summer?

if fans are set to come on at 94 on pfc then it wld only reach higher if u have a problem just means fans will be running a lot on cruise in summer expect to see about 88-90 cruising and creep up in traffic..all this is based on mine with bloody big intercooler in the way...lower temps shd be achieved with no obstructions

Mine are usually stable at ~85 degrees whether I\'m in traffic or not (with an Fwin rad and no fmic), but the inlet temps (I\'m assuming they are inlet temps) rise from ~30 when on the go to 65 when sat in traffic.

Garath use your heater and aircon when in heavy traffic to control the temp. if it gets high

I was out tunning a car on tuesday that despite giving it absolute death, never went above 90. I would be concerned if I saw a rex go over 100. An electric water pump is a bloody good idea. Jeff sells them on his online shop.

Went to Leeds yesterday so watched the water temps to see what we get on the M-way,

Happily @ 80mph intake temp was 16oC and the water temp was 74oC so running quite well. Then crash @ Sheffield stuck in traffic for about 15mins and we got intake 43oC water temp 90oC :(
