Does anyone know anything about this car?

Anyone on here ever own it?

It is a NA 1988 engine.

90000 miles, no SH. is this suspect??

It has also had the seatbelts cut? Sign of a crash??

Do they come with twin exhausts as standard??

Cheers

Brett

Is this the one thats currently advertised on ebay?  I cant say I know of it, but looking at the pictures it looks tidy on the exterior.  However I would advise against buying a Mk2 without an MOT.  GOing on what the seller says its going to require a new down pipe at the very least, its missing the warning panel from the dash and all the sound components have been ripped out.  I know from experience that if this stuf has been removed by a thief or a butcher then you can expect problems in the loom from left to right doors (window control and central locking).
Check out the rear arches, sunroof, under any rubber body parts, the box section areas under the body (many people assume these are chassis section and jack on them. They are not, being only 2mm sheet they fold up easily and hence many are damaged/rusted through) Under the front bumper, in front of the rad and oil cooler is a 3" dia cross member, check this for rust too, if its bad then you are looking at a bitch of a job to sort it out. The top of the windscreen is also a another rust area.
Check that it still has its space saver and tool kit.
Check that the head lamps raise and lower smoothly and together, anything other than a smooth, quick operation suggests a frontal accident in the past.
Check the drivers seat bolster for rips etc, its very common on the mk2s for this to be coming apart, however as its so common decent replacement seats can be hard to find and Mazda will charge you an arm and both legs for a replacement.
On the engine front, if its ok (most egi lumps will do between 125-150k before they totally loose compression) the engine should start quickly and easily from cold and hot.  If its a struggle to start from hot then it suggests poor compression on one or both rotors.  If thats the case then either be prepared to throw £1500+ at the car to rebuild the engine or walk away.
For £1500-2000 there are some good examples of the 2nd generation rx7 to be had, and many in this range will already have been rebuilt or be low mileage single owner examples.
As always, buy with your head, not your heart.

Good luck, hope it turns out well and welcome to the club.

As for wether or not the car is suspect, check with the dvla, they will be able to tell you if its been scraped etc.  How many previous owners does it have on its V5?

yeah it is the one on ebay. It has had 8 owners, looks pretty clean.

decided not to bid on it as it doesn\'t have an MOT. I wouldn\'t care if it was some super rare car but I still aint buying a car without an MOT!!

Cheers for your post

Hi,

It is my car I only bought it as a project/run around as I have a FD the car is in good drivable condition. I have put the car on the MRC for sale section now as the highest bidder was a time waster, I will probably re-list it on eBay if I don’t have any luck.

So you were put off because the car has no MOT? fair enough I would get it all done but it is declared SORN, and I don’t fancy buying the seatbelts and fixing the front pipe if I am going to sell it.
I believe it will pass a MOT providing the seatbelts and front pipe issues are resolved.
as far as i can see there is no crash damage.

IF you are still interested, you are more than welcome to come a view the car for yourself.

Here is the advert on MRC I will post up more pictures later.
