Looking at some of the posts on here of what you guys have been quoted is hurrendous

im currently insured with admiral for my s5 t2

im paying 560 quid for it with 3 years no claims and im 24 ,

its a limited milage insurance of 6000 per year but they never asked me my milage or anything when i started so not sure how theyll know if i ever go over 6k

davefrith

possibly by your tax document or MOT

Im insured with Admiral and I have to say that they offered me the best quote and policy.  I also had to make a claim and the help I got was brilliant!

No, but you\'re obliged to give them your current MOT if they pay out for your car. If the mileage reading on the car exceeds 6000 miles since your last MOT, they won\'t pay out.

im not trying to cause a confrontation or anything but seriously that cant be the way they do it , i mean for example how do they know when my mot starts or runs out ,

for example someone mots theyre car then does 15k miles in it and sells it with 6 months mot remaining

then before the 6mnths is up the car is in an accident how can they prove how many miles it actually did ,

ive had previous ltd mileage policies in the past but they required a signature on a milage declaration form

No confrontations here mate and TBH I\'m not in the insurance game, I just assumed that it\'s worked out this way.

Don\'t you have to declare the mileage when you take out the insurance?

I would have thought that most limited mileage policies are aimed at the "enthusiast",  ie someone who will keep their car for a number of years. If the mileage is declared when you take out the insurance and you have a claim 2 or 3 years down the line, surely they\'ll pull their faces if you\'ve done 20,000 miles after paying for 6000 miles per year policies. The MOT would, I think be used to back up their claims.

Also, the mileage put on your road tax form (although it\'s not compulsory to fill this box in yet) is kept on record in Swansea as is the mileage at MOT time. Insurers also share information with each other (as they tell you EVERY time you phone one:( ). If you have a claim, believe me they\'ll explore every one of these options to see if they can wriggle out of paying

Limited mileage

I\'m on limited mileage and they just asked me what the reading was over the phone when I took the policy out.

I\'m sure, in the event of a claim they would look at the current reading compared with what I said and also the lest MOT.

I started with nothing and I have most of it left

The Insurer would normally ask you to declare the current mileage of the vehicle on the application form when you take the policy out.

The usually ask you to re-confirm the mileage at each renewal too.

Mash - I would guess the fact that they did not ask for your mileage was just incompetance. Be careful, cos if you do total the vehicle the will ask for the MOT as a matter of course and probably service history etc. As you say, the MOT is not a foolproof way to show how many miles you\'ve done but it could work against you.

I have my policy limited to 6000 miles per 10 months (I wont do anything near that) and they didnt ask me the clock reading.  There are, as has been said, so many ways of finding out that this becomes less of an issue.

With my westie, every year I have to supply current clock mileage AND photos of the car from 5 angles!!

I asked adrian flux what the difference in price/milege was.. they told me 100 quid difference between a limited an non.. with the non doesnt matter how far you drive (tell them 1 million same price)

I dont bother with those policies anymore for the sake 100 quid.. hated watching my miles
The Beatles were prats.."Money can\'t buy me lovveeee".. utter rubbish. You can buy love here

Buy my car foo! :D

Mash

my renewals due shortly so ill make sure i mention to them that ive done less than 6k (keeping me milage down anyways as theyres now only 7k on the rebuild

difference was quite alot for me with other vehicles

my trans am was just over 1k to insure with unlimited milage but with 3k miles got it for 300 quid considering it cost 1 pound per mile when id finished it was planning on doing too many miles anyways

come renewal ill be 25 too so hopefully it might drop enough

ps cheers for all the responses people
