There are now many extended life products in the market place known as OAT or Hybrid OAT coolants (Organic Acid Technology). These have very effective corrosion inhibitor packs that will maintain protection for several times longer than the traditional ethylene glycol coolants with silicates / phosphates. However, beware... OAT coolants can have adverse reactions with other parts of the cooling system in older vehicles that were not designed to use them, ie seals, gaskets and hoses. That is not to say that all OAT coolants will cause problems, only I personally would not risk it when adequate performance (cooling, antifreezing and corrosion prevention) can be obtained from the cheaper traditional alternative - 50/50 EG mix with demineralized water changed every year or 2. In answer to your original question though Gavin, the Tesco product should be fine and the cheaper products on the shelf in stores such as halfords will also be the basic ethylene glycol type. Hope this helps.
