in my quest to buy a rx7 i have been offered the car below, whats peoples thoughts whats it worth ??

does it sound a risk to buy it?

For Sale 1992 Import Rx7 67K
Approx 3k on rebuilt engine. Engine was rebuilt back in Japan in March. Car has bareky been used since.
Resprayed white.
HKS BOV
4\' Aftermarket exhaust
17\'  Split Rims
aftermarket rear spoiler
Late spec interior.
Full tool kit/space saver!

stuff that needs doing is;

Brakes need sorting as they are bad ann the abs light is on.
Vacuum hose has come off (we think) which i could probably fix tbh but upto buyer.
There\'s a nasty gash in the rear spoiler that needs sorting of you want to keep the spoiler on the car.
It\'s not yet registered in the UK, so it needs it\'s first MOT and then to be registered etc.

asp

u 4got to say how much it is

Buying any car is a risk - any warranty ?

Think you\'ve either got to trust you\'re own judgement and be prepared for the worst oe pay a specialist to look it over. Could be difficult if it\'s in Japan.

Perhaps one of the ppl on this forum with contacts out there could help. At a price I\'m sure but could be worthwhile.

Who\'s paying for the SVA  - MOT etc.

Resprayed white - what colour was it b4, if it was different colour could look s**t when you lift the bonnet.

ABS sounds like it could be expensive.

TBH I\'d want to know a liitle more on what things are going to cost to put right.

Having said that, if the price is right due to these things and you know ppl who can sort it for the right money, could be worth the gamble.

I get the feeling from your post you may be unsure.

There have been quiet a few 7\'s up for sale on this forum that have been slow to move - are we moving into a buyers market?

Not much help but in the end it\'ll be up to you.

Is it a UK importer?

BTW where in the Midlands are you?

was not getting at you just didn\'t know if its against the forum rules to ask about a members car,

if the seller has no proof of a rebuild i dont think i would offer anything over £4500, also if he\'s not got any history of the car i would definitely get it to a specialist to get it checked over :D

I wouldnt get too carried away with moving into a \'buyers market\' comments - its winter at the moment, it will be a different story when the sun comes out, any car dealer will tell you that.

johnf

As you say, we will see.

However you can\'t dissagree that compared to 2 or 3 years ago, when I was looking to buy, there are a LOT more cars around for sale.

We have seen an increase in ppl getting into the import market and there are consistently, in my opinion, more cars available.

If this trend continues it will drive the price of cars down, I think thats basic supply and demand and nothing to do with the time of year.

I agree john, there are probably 10 x the number of fd\'s in the uk than there were a few years back - and 100 x more of the other jap sports cars. 2 years ago some wks u would be lucky to find 5 fd\'s in the trader, now there are probably 50+!!

It is a buyers market - esp with all the personal imports going on!

Thers also a load more **** cars too, imho, as people try to make quick money on them bringing over any old tat they find.

cjle17

That is a very fair point about there being a larger supply, but do you not think that this has coincided with a huge rise in the popularity of jap cars?  Eg net net, 0 impact on the market equilibrium?

However when I look around I do see loads and loads of crap.  Which is so unfortunate, because its bad news for everybody apart from the non-reputable/unknowledgeable importers who sell the rubbish on and make a quick buck.

I remember 4 1/2 years ago when I first bought mine and took it too a Show at Stamford Hall in Leicestershire, there was only 3 FD\'s there and they attracted alot of attention,it\'s amazing the numbers that have been imported over the last few years and sadly there\'s alot of crap coming over too which combined with the numbers now on the market is driving prices down.

Wish the Fast and the Furious had never been released:D

I was told by one of the dealers that some (not all!) of the imports where write off\'s in Japan, so they repair them with minium cost and presto have no history when imported!!! :reallymad
