Can anyone tell me the pro’s and cons to having adjustable boost?  I’m not really thinking of this to increase power, more to reduce it!!  For example if I have to give it to a garage for some reason, I can turn the boost down so they cant go thrashing it.  Or someone needs to borrow it â€" same thing I can wind the boost down.  Also, can you switch the boost down completely?  If so would this improve fuel economy?  If this worked it would make it more practical for me to use it as an everyday car, commuting to and from work without it using up half my wages on fuel!!  ;)

And now the question:  What is the best one to get?  I don’t need some all singing and dancing one, I have plenty of gauges in the car so this functionality would be a waste.

I would go for the Profec B controller, You can lower it as low as 7 psi, You cant go lower as the spring in the stock wastegate wont allow you to, Plus you dont want to lose all boost as you need some torque to keep you truddling along, otherwise you will be reving the nuts of it just to make progress (not good for fuel economy).

You will save a bit on fuel by running it at 7psi.

But you will save the most on fuel bills if you install an Apexi Power FC ECU and have it mapped properly on a DYNO

I just mapped my mates 200sx with a conservative road map, he now gets an extra 60 miles to a tank.

You can go lower than what spring you have in the wastegate but you need to set the gain so it don\'t build boost and this is different on different boost controllers. Also on the hks evc boost controllers adjusting the gain is different depending whether wastegate is external or internal.

Thanks for the help guys.  So what sort of thing would you advise buying?  Any links?  As I said, I dont want all singing all dancing, im on a budget and its starting to look as though I may ned a new clutch :(

I would try the Vendor links advertised on this forum Shy,Reworx etc

I think an entry level boost controller like the Blitz Spec S Controller is around approx £250

I can thoroughly recomend the Profec B boost controller. I have one in my Rex http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12559

It works well, is idiot proof to set up and you can switch between high and low boost at the press of a button.  Also if your leaving it in a garage you can turn it off completely so if they try to thrash it the engine will just cut out, not allowing them to go mental in it. (this is safe as i was advised by Pip at WGT Auto\'s to do this to mine when i leave it in the bodyshop for my rear bumper repairing).

So go on... ...you know you want one:D
