Hi Rich,

What size is the exhaust housing on the GT42?  is it over 1.4?
Thanks,

20B_boy

1.4?!! theyre usually either:

Compressor wheel 94mm 0.6A/R, Turb wheel 82mm 1.15A/R, or
Compressor wheel 102mm 0.6A/R, Turb wheel 82mm 1.15A/R

Details here by downloading catalogue:

Ta Rich,  wasn\'t sure and hadn\'t checked for a while.

Most of the guys out here are running 1.32 exhaust housings or larger on T04\'s, but with the BB turbo it is much more efficient so I would imagine that it makes up for it.

Will hopefully have my brothers car on the dyno within a month or so, will be interesting to see what hp it makes.
Thanks,

Glenn Butcher

Just checked something quickly,  I found a GT42 that has an exhaust housing of 1.53 (standard).

I\'ll do some more digging.
Thanks,

20B_boy

Hmm....bizarre - no mention of any turbine housing greater than 1.28A/R in the Garrett catalogue...

GCG only list a 1.22A/R turbine.

Where\'d you see the 1.53 mate?

PS cant wait to see the numbers for Steve\'s wagon :D

Hi mate,

Here it is listed at the bottom, I\'m also trying to confirm this from other sources...
Thanks,

Glenn Butcher

I split the thread now - as I think it is interesting.  Still waiting on people to get back to me 20B.
Thanks,

QuoteHmmm...I\'ve seen that page before somewhere too.

Note the text in the last column; I wonder whether this is really the GT42 that Garrett market for aftermarket car apps? Or some thing from a little further back down the evolutionary scale! I know a lot of the big BB turbos originally came from deisel apps.

Garrett site and catalogue appears bang up to date so I wuold guess their figures are right?

Presumably if larger exh hsings are availalbe then they are custom jobs?

Interesting....

Thought I would post this up anyways Rich. - you are probably right.  Perhaps you can ask Garrett. or a turbo maker to put a larger size housing on (more of a hybrid).

I\'ll keep you posted on what I find out anyways, only a couple of people are using them out here as far as I know.
Thanks,

Fish

Ok, that turbo quotes 500-1000 BHP, So in rotary terms that would be from 300-750 BHP!

Depends what the car is being built for! Track or drag. Rich\'s will be for drag cos he\'s such a queen. :p

Waiting for the flames to begin. :)

Street, drag (santa pod variety - as opposed to me in bra and panties - so stop dreaming Danny! (and OJ should he pick up this thread)), track, whatever...

350-700 is fine by me !!

GT42 - big, cheap and cheerful. For the money I paid it was worth a shot. If the 20B doesnt like it then I\'ll find an alternative...

To be honest I doubt I\'ll know whether its right or wrong any ways so I\'m sure it\'ll be fine !!

R.

PS you had to drag \'our\' thread down to your level, didnt u peanut head !!!!

I keep fogetting that you need an EXTRA rota. Those figures are for a twin rota, with some of Carls magic porting that turbo on a 20B should be a little higher.

I would want a turbo that flows between 250-600 for a twin rota track car. That way you shouldn\'t have to much of a lag problem.
