I had my 92 FD MOT\'d this morning and it has failed on emmisions.  The reading was 5%co and it should be 3.5%.  The car is standard apart from induction kit and CAT back exhaust.  Has anyone got any suggestions how I can get it down?

Adam

Have you still got the air pump connected up.  You might find it had been disconnected in japan.  This is what happened on my first FD....connected it back up and passed...

Yea im pretty sure the air pump is connected all the pipes are attached.

Have u got the Apexi commander unit?
If so, you can reduce the injection duty and it\'ll drop
I know cos that\'s how i passed my MOT last year!

Engine emissions fast idle test needs to be done at 2500rpm instead of the usual 3000rpm as otherwise the air pump won\'t be running. You can check that the airpump is running ok just by checking under the bonnet. You\'ll see the triangular shaped bit on the pulley spinning at 2500rpm but then stop at 3000rpm.
Also, don\'t forget to make it clear that your car only needs to pass the basic emissions test for CO and HC due to year it was first used. No need for Lambda measurements.

The air pump is working, I havent got a Apexi Fc yet need one.  It is failing the emmisions when the engine is at idle, the readings when the engine is revving dropped right off I watched.

I had a similar problem with mine with similar mods. The garage I took it to purge cleaned the fuel system and that did the trick. Not sure why exactly the guy was busy when I went to pick it up so never got the chance for him to explain to me.

Hope this helps

Did you do that by PIM voltage adjustment, or changing the values in individual cells?

My MOT is due on Saturday, and I would like to make sure it passes without any fuss!

It WASN\'T individual cell changes..so must have been PIM voltage adjustments...Very straight forward to my surprise
Currently my car\'s at Geff\'s having a re-rebuild & port, so can\'t double check.
But, i remember whilst  reducing the %, the IDLE dropped and so if you give it a go, you can tell from the engine/exhaust note!

Sounds like PIM voltage, it\'s what I suspected.

Not something you would want to do for a road tune, very coarse setting over a wide rev range, but for the purposes of an MOT test, absolutely perfect.

I have a Datalogit, and what I would really like is an MOT map that I can load for the test and then reload my normal map when the test is finished.

Thanks for the info.

Cheers,

Richard

That sounds like a good idea.
I wonder if any of the boffins here eg Max?-would know how to do this.
