Geff\'s would do 11\'s if he had 5 minutes to work on it - no probs! Change the turbo and it\'d do 11\'s pretty easy I reckon.

He made 12.37 at TOTB.

I made 12.74 in it on my 3rd run ever up the strip.

I cant launch for shit. And Santa pod is shit for traction. And it was heat soaking real bad (had to sit and wait for umpteen bikes to run first :(). And it was running way to warm cause the damn radiator didnt want to fill proprerly. And one of the bolts for the down pipe was missing. And - its only running 11-13psi!!!

I dont think the gulf is THAT big. Glenn - veteran of many a drag meet in oz - was amazed how slippy pod was compared to back home.

The excuses are endless!!

The 13b in my Street RX-4 puts out 490rwhp on C16 fuel through an auto and standard RX-4 diff. Its run 9.7 @ 138mp/h and after being in 3 cars over a 4 year period, its come apart for a rebuild. It ran in the 8s at over 150mp/h in my racecar and with the exception of porting, is totally standard, no dowels, no tricky seals. Just a big intercooler to keep air temps down, and a Phil Laitrd tuned MoTeC ECU calling the shots. Ignition is MoTeC CDI.  The parts to rebuild it cost aus$1100.00 and now its good as new!

The Datsuns 13b has made over 900hp on Methanol and gets pulled down every meeting for inspection. It runs a roller bearing 2 piece crank, and uses Hurley or PTS seals, no doweling is used and as always the Phil Laird tuned MoTeC M800 ECU and CDI 8 ignition are along for the ride. The engine requires a lot of maintance, but we have never actually broken anything.

The tricks to long engine life. Good fuel, correct tuning, low intake air temps and keep the revs under 9800rpm! :):)

Hi Marty, that is one impressive engine in your rx4! I know I should be even more impressed with your race engine but to be honest for the times you are doing I kinda expect stats like that.
It is very interesting to hear that you dont have dowels( in the rx4 ) And that the standard diff is still in the land if the living!
There do seem to be alot of guys on this forum who talk about how scared they are about blowing up their engines, and how it is the main reason why people are put off from buying mazdas in the first place. I wonder why (mainly fd) owners have so much trouble over here with their cars. I know that there are quite a few very good builders of engines here so it is a bit of a mystery.
By the way I think that there is a current topic just like this at the moment on the ausrotary forum. Might be interesting to check out if people are replying well to it.
  cheers, michael.

p.s Marty, is the rx4 you talk about the silver/grey thing that used to have sub_11s number plates? if so then I saw that race at the old creek one wednesday night and it has stuck in my mind ever since!

AVENGE

Yeah its the silver/grey one, and it still has its SUB11S numberplates. I thought about changing ythem, but everybody knows the car as SUB11S. We get away with running the standard diff because its auto, [2 speed powerglide] but  i wouldnt fancy its chances with a manual. :)

Over here we have a couple of fds running low tens at well over 130mp/h with standard gearboxs and diffs, you hear of a few breakages, but not may.
What problems are you guys having, mechanical failures, or is it more to do with tuning ?

Do any of the extreemly intelligent moderators that we have think it might be a good odea to move this thread to the perfprmance section? not too sure how many people will respond to it here and it does seem to be a very interesting topic.
  cheers.
