Items For Sale / Tiger Back Box
April 17, 2012, 10:15:44 PM
My Tiger back box.   This was a replacement for my Racing Beat exhaust which needed repacking.  Finally got round to the repack and have refitted the Racing Beat unit.

Been great.:)  I paid £180 for it.  Offered for £140.

Collection from Bracknell.

Guys (and ladies), in my quest to improve the RX I am interested in the Xcessive Lower Inlet Manifolds...however I\'m unsure as to the benefit of such a mod.

Has anyone had one fitted, does it offer greater acceleration, more BHP or another benefit?

I have a street ported twin turbo running BNR twins (which are a fraction longer than standard twins - due to the bit welded in the middle).  Interested to know if this mod would be conducive to those I already have (too many to list).

Appreciate any comments.

Great, luv my bumper, glad you got a good shot of it.

I now understand why the best RX7 there failed to get the prize.  Clearly the cloaking device was switched on while I was at Brooklands.  A lesson for me for the future!

Note to self, respray car in brighter colour, hire Brighouse & Rastrick band and hire lots of latvian dancing girls before attending MRC events.

You gotta laugh.

Parked just down from the 4 Red RXs in the main \'ring\'.  Non of the above pictures are mine.  It was there as in one of the shots you can just see the a part of my rear bumper.

I\'ll bring a brass band and some dancing girls with me next time I attend an event.

Events Calendar / BROOKLANDS - SUNDAY 27th APRIL

Blow me down, after 10 years I attend my first MRC event only to find my car didn\'t get on a single photograph!  Is this my punishment?!

Brooklands never disappoints, Mercedes world is fantastic as a free afternoon out.  In 2018 I\'ll bring my own Camera.

Is that it?  damn, here was I thinking I could improve the RXs stopping power even more.  Bigger disks I guess would help disapate the heat a bit more.

Cheers for the info.

I upgraded my front brakes to AP 4 Pots 2 years ago (one of the best mods I ever made to my car).  Are there any benefits to upgrading the rear brakes and if so what are the potential options?

General Technical / BioMech leave the FD
February 28, 2008, 12:24:31 PM
Read your mail with interest.  No idea why the cars the importers providing out there are 100,000 +.  However if they are on their original engine they will soon be needing a rebuild and that will need a specialist.

If you are buying an old car 92 - 95, the water seals are likely to be ready to go irrespective of the mileage and if you want to maximise your \'trouble free\' motoring you ideally want a much newer car.  There are lots available from importers in the UK.

HOWEVER!  If I were you, and I assume you live in Finland and want to drive the car in Finland, I probably would not buy an FD.  I love FDs and have had mine for over 10 years (and love it).  During the 10 years it has needed a \'specialist\' almost every year for one thing or another.  They are great cars but from time to time they need someone who knows about them to fix the issues you will have.  I imagine there are very few UK owners that have their car serviced by anyone other than an RX7 specialist (I see the flood of 3 responses saying I\'ve always had mine serviced by a Mazda main dealer).

I love them, but unless you are prepared to ship your car to the UK every couple of years, I wouldn\'t have one.

Surely the crack and pop from the exhaust on gear changes is part of the fun of owning the car?  Not aware that is causes any damage, but I bow to those with more technical knowledge than myself.

3rd generation RX-7's / Fastest Stock Twins thread
August 17, 2007, 12:20:16 PM
Not sure if this is the right thread as I don\'t have an exact speed, but just had my BNR twins mapped by RE:Worx, putting out a healthy 355 RWHP at 1.0bar boost (thats about 410 - 420 fwhp I guess??).  Very pleased.  At 0.8 bar they were doing 316rwhp compared to my old set up that was maxed out at 289rwhp at 0.8 bar boost.  I can certainly feel the difference!

3rd generation RX-7's / Decat
August 09, 2007, 01:57:31 PM
I decatted mine a good few years ago, it liberated an extra 19 rwbhp.  I know because it was decatted at a rolling road session and we did runs before and after.  I do have a bigger downpipe (which was already on).

By the way I\'m sure your car will need a cat for the MOT...correct me if I\'m wrong guys.  Certainly when mine is MOT\'d it has to meet the emissions and it\'s a 92 J.

General Technical / My 10 pence worth
July 26, 2007, 01:25:49 PM
In the 9 years that I\'ve owned my RX, I\'ve tried a lot of tuners and parts suppliers and found the following:

Rotecknics - Superb technical knowledge and the work done has to date been excellent quality.  I do find the prices higher than anyone else I\'ve used and there always seems to be something that needs doing.  The best knowledge and good customer service. David R provides excellent one to service and sound explanations as to what needs doing.

ReWorx - Have looked after my car probably more than most and generally do a very good job. Friendly guys who are always busy.  They occasionally spend more time on the phone than under the bonnet but are always fair on labour charges and are very reasonable.  I like the fact I can loiter around and watch the work and ask stupid questions from time to time. Geoff and Max are talented tuners and I have used the rolling road on a number of occasions.  One fitting of a part that has since become questionable, but generally a good outfit who I will use again.

Hurley Engineering - Rebuilt my first engine.  A number of problems when the car was returned which had to be sorted else where.  The rebuild lasted 7 years (I do only 5,000 miles a year).  The rebuild would have lasted longer had new housings been used originally, but can\'t grumble.  Once bitten, twice shy.

Rotaryarts - Purchased a few bits and pieces over the years.  Generally a good service with speedy delivery.  Prices keen.  Had a bad experience last year while Gary was \'off-line\'.

Thames Valley MOTs - Dave enthuses RX7\'s and it\'s infectious.  His own RX7 drains the MOT center profits, but don\'t they all.  Good service, always helpful and excellent customer service.

BNR Supercars - Had my turbos from there this year.  Had to wait nearly 4 months.  Not ideal.  Customer communication poor but always courteous.  Te finished product however is worth the wait.  Top quality finishes all round.  If you want more power and like twins, this is the only way to go.  Very knowledgeable and skilled engineer.

SR Motorsports - Fast and efficient delivery.  Top quality parts.  I\'d use them time and again (particularly while it\'s $2 to the pound!).

Or to be completely different why not go for a set of BNR twin turbos?  Good for upto 400 rwhp.

Just got a set myself (still running the engine in).  The guys at Rotechniks seemed impressed.  They are fully remanufactured with Garret made 360 degree barings.  The turbines are larger and the \'intakes\' widened.

Keep the twins driveability but with single turbo power.  Seems like the best of all worlds.....apart from the lead time - took me 4 months to get mine back.  Lets hope they are worth the wait.
