General Technical / Royal Purple Dealer in the UK?
January 24, 2014, 02:07:12 PM
Hi,

Can anyone tell me if they have used a Royal Purple dealer in the UK recently?

The last service I carried out I bought the oil from a dealer in the UK but since then their stock levels are almost zero.

I\'m considering trying RedLine brand from Opie so if anyone has views on that brand let me know.

Car ran well on the Royal Purple. The only difference was when the engine reached hot the pressure gauge did register a lower reading that with the GTX Mineral. Otherwise the car ran fine.

Thanks,

Andrew.

Thanks again,

I\'ll have a go in the morning.

Also just to add that the compressor is working for 5 to 10 second periods switches off for 10 seconds and then starts again for a short period, whereas before it would stay on for longer. Could just be coincedence anyway.

Thanks RX7Boy,

Is the power fc known to upset the a/c?

Hi everyone,

Not sure if anyone can suggest an answer to this but here goes...

The A/C is not very cold in my RX7 (FD3S 1996 UK Car)

It all works ok, there is evidence of bubbles in the inspection glass and when I hook up a gauge to the piping it shows that the level of R134a is fine.

But for some wierd reason the cold air is always air temperature it never seems to go cold any more.

I\'m not sure if it\'s related or not but it seemed to start about the same time as fitting a Power FC and an upgraded radiator (Greddy).

There is more of a gap between the radiator and condensor could this have an effect? I had to put some washers inbetween the brackets (to drop the condensor slightly) so that the radiator would fit. Lack of proper air flow?

If the compressor is going fair enough, but it all seems to be ok. I\'m a bit puzzled! haha.

There is also a slight hissing noise from behind the passenger side dashboard which happens when the A/C is on (I\'m sure its not a snake by the way......)

I did consider fitting the old ECU back again to see if it made any difference but with the exhaust and intercooler mods I\'ve made I would be worried about damaging the engine.

Thanks,

Andrew.

3rd generation RX-7's / Aftermarket AST
December 01, 2009, 07:54:02 PM
Hi Luke,

From personal experience, I would say don\'t bother upgrading unless the new AST has a 0.9 Bar cap on it. The same rating as the car has now. Or lets you use the original cap.

Why? Because I bought a Mazdaspeed AST and it came with a 1.3Bar cap (which I think was the original rating when the car was first sold). Looks beautiful and shiny and nicely made (and yes cost me fortune)

Fitted it to the car and went for a drive for 3 minutes. When I brought the car back I had water pouring out of the overflow bottle, frightend the ?@*%!! out of me! lol

Thought I\'d blown the water seals because the increased water pressure caused by new cap put too much strain in the system. Very quickly put the old one back on!

Thankfully no problems since (that was six years ago) phew.

Mazdaspeed are naughty too as the cap is custom made, I was unable to find a single  0.9 bar cap that would fit properly.

Not trying to scare you mate, just my 5p worth.

P.S. almost forgot, the only 0.9bar AST i\'ve seen is the RE-Amemiya one.

Hi,

I\'ve just got myself a LED high level stop light for my UK rx7 and I want to hook it upto the cars wiring loom.

Being a UK car it doesn\'t appear to have the connector for the light available.

I have a few options (just replacing the Mazda one with a waterproof universal one).

But was just wondering if maybe someone might know where I might be able to get the connector from? Or maybe someone might be breaking up a car for spares and could cut the connector plus some cable for me?

It would be the cable that comes through a rubber grommit behind the 3rd stop light. Two pin connection.

I will post some pictures if it helps what I going on about! lol

Many thanks.

Andrew.

Just to let others know I\'ve sorted the problem.

The long Earth lead that fastens to the chassis for the original ecu was earthing bad.

Made up a couple of earth leads to the Apexi ECU case to the chassis and also from the original earth lead to the chassis. The problems now appear to be solved.

Exchanged a few emails with Ross.

Gonna try phoning him tomorow.

So if it mounts to the bulk head am I going to have to drill and tap a few holes? "gulp" lol

Thanks Adam,

That\'s much more useful.

I guess it was being test fitted in this picture? Only because it looks like it "floating" above the mounting points for the front suspension.

Does the top of the bar just rest against the bulk head?

Hi,

Does anyone have any decent pictures of one of the Dragon Performance Strut Bars?

It\'s the one on the "Pink" Coloured Car.

Three point strut bar made of ST/ST with a criss-cross design across the middle.

I\'m interested in buying one, but would like some larger pictures than the one on their site.

Did anyone on here own the car??

Cheers,

Andrew.

Ok, here\'s another weird thing.

Every time I start the engine, I\'m now getting a shot of static (or noise) through the speakers! What\'s that all about?? lol

I don\'t want to damage my £600 speakers!

Well it could be something of my own doing, as I couldn\'t do the learning process quite properly.

The water level dropped in the radiator so I had to stop the car briefly to fill it up again.

Just drained and now refilled with coolant and water wetter. Will see if that makes any difference.

But thanks for the suggestion. I have read about this problem before but the air was warm on all four fan speeds. So that\'s why I\'m a bit puzzled.

Hi,

Just installed the Power FC into my car.

No problems with the learning process, everything seems fine.

But I\'m a bit puzzled because I have no cold air from the A/C

All the motors work fine. The fan works on all positions and you can hear the temperature motor changing the mixture.

Also there is gas in the system (I can see through the inspection window).

I have fitted an uprated radiator. But I thought the only issue with that is getting hot air not cold?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Andrew.

I believe that UK/European law only required the 3rd rear stoplight from \'96 (could be wrong about, can\'t remember now...!)

But the centre stop light on my car is a dummy one. It\'s hollow, there\'s no connectors for bulbs on the back.

The only reason why I started the thread is because I was wondering if Mazda made the harness with the connectors on already, doesn\'t seem much sense making one for Japan and one for the UK/European spec cars.
