More random link following led to here. A slightly breathless, surprised, account of RX7's unaccountably winning lots of races in America. Plenty of archive footage presented by a nice young man with a pleasant voice if questionable ideas about decor..

1981 Tricentrol Series
A film about Gordon Spice Capri Team but Win Percy in the TWR FB shows up a fair bit on track. Part 1 of 2 but the algorithm never offered me the second part.  I fell over it by accident so if you've all seen it before - apologies.

3rd generation RX-7's / Re: BOOSTED FD BUILD.

Usually a handful on Car and Classic. (https://www.carandclassic.com/)  They don't appear to linger unless they are fresh off the boat (Unknown quantities) or very late models and therefore very expensive. Classified ads are free to post AFAIK. They also offer an auction option (14 days) though not sure this is free to sellers.

Quote from: clive on March 22, 2024, 07:30:11 AMNo idea why Ford felt the German market was so different from the UK with the Taunus brand.
You can see the bits of MK1 Cortina in this car-------------maybe its a German thing----------steady with the answers  :))  :))  :))

If it comes to it, there's a fair amount of Zephyr and Zodiac in a Mustang...or maybe it's the other way around?  Still none of them had a rotary so I'll leave the fascinating parts book analysis for another time  :D

Always intrigued by the idea that the rotary engine was supposedly very flexible about the choice of fuel, which would make sense of a 'battlefield friendly' version. 300 million dollars of defence spending though? You would think there would have to be a good reason to write that off as a dead end around the time the world started getting sensitive to diminishing the use of petroleum. The video did not mention whether it was hideously unreliable or why there is only one left but as that is allegedly used as a generator, it seems reasonable to assume they will expect it to start when asked and keep running?  Interesting stuff - thanks. Any idea why it was dumped?

What was not to like...grey skies, freezing cold and raining...everything a race track is in my mind! Was glad to see my (and my username's) tactical withdrawal to the grandstand resulted in the gremlins giving up. It sounded very good as it howled down the straight. That silver BMW was quick though and sounded good too. If the Peugeot next door to you was 70k, I dread to think what the Beemer must have cost.
Economic downturn? Where? :)

Steady...Clive thinks High North is anywhere passed Watford.  :)

Quote from: Casey on October 25, 2023, 08:36:50 PMThe Iconic SP has been posted all over the place today. Sadly, we've been here many times before with Mazda and I can't get too excited (added to the fact the rotors don't drive the wheels!).

I do know what you mean but I am struggling to find any part of it that does not appeal. Not 100% on those wheels and the doors would be a disaster down at Sainsburys but I could see myself effortlessly forgiving these things each time I pushed my trolley back to it in the car park!  :D

I'm sure it's blindingly quick and all the rest of it but can't help thinking if you wind up so far from where you started that there is so very little left of the original...why did you start there in the first place? A space frame would seem more logical - assuming that is not what this is. If it is...is it really an FD at all?  :)

Really sorry to see/hear that Clive. I dare say you'll be inundated with sentiments about it being great that at least you are OK. They aren't much help when you unload the trailer and have to set to though. Call if there is anything I can do in the 'you hold it I'll hit it' department.  Don't have Steve's skillset but will bring my own biscuits.

Old school Mazda's / Re: 1970 Cosmo Restoration

The Australian bloke at least has one good car among the three in his workshop to use as a reference! Yorkshire's team have rusty rotary form but even they might struggle to guess what shape stuff is supposed to be in the face of some of the ragged lower edges.

I'm not sure I have seen all of the Australian episodes - YouTube's algorithms found it for me - but I think the car in the middle is his - the others are customer's. Only the 'good' one is staying stock.

Despite wheels being a bit of an issue for some....would anyone really love 6 down 7 across?

I do find it a wee bit annoying that the LM win gets treated like a happy accident. Yes, all the other stuff that might have taken the result DID fall over or break down but the 787 ran fault free for the whole time and that is why it won - not Mazda's first attempt and the last year it would have been possible due to rule changes.  Of course Mazda have only won it once but then so have Aston Martin and nobody suggests that was a fluke do they.  8)
