General Technical / UK or Import How to tell ?
December 05, 2003, 09:45:48 PM
Hello,

UK RX-7\'s will have a UK style number plate as well as leather seats, air conditioning, cruise control and sunroof.

Also, if it\'s an import I think the V5 will indicate that it was first registered outside of the UK.

Cheers,

Steve

The lock/unlock switch is on the driver\'s side door switch panel.

If that doesn\'t cure the problem, it may be a faulty switch. Ocassionally, I loose the ability to control my passenger side window and have found that hitting the driver\'s side switch panel cures the problem. Not very scientific but it works.

Good luck.

General Technical / spinning out

Hi Matt,

I\'ve just changed from P6000s to Toyos and have found the T1s to be noticably more grippy.

The Pirellis were easy to spin up in the dry but the Toyos just grip.

My only complaint about the Toyo\'s is the "balloon-like" appearance.

Cheers,

Steve

General Technical / FD air con
June 24, 2003, 10:51:03 PM
I think there\'s a sticker on the underside of the bonnet which states what gas is in the air con system.

(My car is also a 94 and it takes R134a.)

Hi Andy,

I\'ve attached the dimensions of the Infinity 50.5\'s which I got sent from Inifinity customer services.

I assume it\'s the same for all FD\'s but in my (UK) car, the speaker is mounted in a plastic moulding. To get the Infinities to fit you\'ll need to cut away a little bit of the moulding to allow the magnet to protrude further into the door. (On my car there\'s about 3mm of clearance between the speaker and the window runner.)

The tweeters can be flush or surface mounted and although I don\'t normally like cutting-up trim, I\'m planning to flush fit them into the door - just below the window. I saw another FD with them there and they looked factory fitted.

The rear speakers are mounted on a frame (see my next post) and the cut-out dimensions are as follows:

Cut-out Length - 7.5inches
Cut-out Width - 5 inches
Mounting Depth - 55mm
Magnet Dia - 65mm

Please apply a slight tolerance to the length and width figures as the speaker is screwed and glued in place and I don\'t want to destroy it just yet. I made a note of how much clearance there is around the rear of the magnet but I\'ve misplaced it and the car is in the bodyshop at the moment. E-mail me later if you need to know. (Think there is at least 15mm of rear clearance and 20mm of side clearance around the magnet.)

I can\'t quantify how much effect it will have but you may want to take the opportunity to pack the rear wheel arches with soundproofing to absorb some of the road noise.

Are you planning to fit an amp?

The speakers are round but there isn\'t much depth to play with.

If you\'re after component speakers, Infinity Kappa 50.5\'s will fit - just! The cheapest I\'ve seen them for is about £125 form the place below. (The website\'s not very flash but they\'re pretty cheap and they deliver very quickly.)

The only downside to the Kappas is that the tweeter grills are silver but its easy enough to change that.

(Drop me a line if you need to know the dimensions of the rear speakers as I have those out at the moment.)

Cheers,

Steve
