Quote from: RotaryTony;799004and others with 996/7 GT3 RS, i know it\'s very difficult to follow this cars (with great drivers) but it\'s for just make fun with all of us. ;)

I suprised and overtook a couple of 997 GT3RS drivers at the Nurburgring earlier this year and they we\'re trying as hard as they could. Just wish I\'d had a picture of the first one\'s faciial expression.

And I\'m no gifted driver, his lines we better than mine, I was just a bit braver. So if you\'re already well into you track driving the FD is a potent weapon. Good luck they\'ll soon be eating your dust :Thumbs-up

Quote from: trotter;785509aren\'t those mated on a single crank though? How would you get two E-shafts and flywheels to turn one gear box? Or am I being slightly thick here?

It turns out they don\'t work the way I thought they would they are single common crank and you wouldn\'t be able to do it with a rotary. So it looks like inline 8 rotor, (repeat after me) it\'ll never work..... the W engines are like the VR6 engines in the Golf with a 15 degrees staggered V6 and two of those mated to a common crank at 90 degrees. no wonder they\'re so small (relatively speaking). :Giggle

They could always go via the Bently/VW/Bugatti route of 2 engines mated to a common gearbox a la W12/16 engine?

The :censored::censored::censored::censored:pit would be like a sauna though 2 x 4 rotors worth of heat!

Rotary and General Chit-Chat / Rear Window Help!
August 30, 2011, 12:12:34 PM
Hi Guys,

After some local genius decided my rear window was no longer needed I have to find a replacement and fairly sharpish. What am I looking looking at cost wise to replace it and are there any alternatives like a polycarb or similar?

Really hacked off right now, worked my ass off all weekend because of on call now this greets me on my unhappy trip to work in the morning....

Phew tested mine last night with a couple of apps got between 92-96db avg between 4-5k rpm, I should be alright.

Thanks to the people at FEED for a quiet yet free flowing exhaust!Quiet being a relative term of course, WOT under load still must be well in excess of a hundred :Giggle

General Technical / Auto Vs Manual
July 28, 2011, 12:48:31 PM
Quote from: Mikey22;778587Is a manual much better than an auto?

Yes manual is better unless you have an auto only licence...

Otherwise you have more ratios so have better in gear acceleration, you can take greater advanatge of engine braking, you get more power from the flywheel to the wheels, it\'s more fun, more involving, you can use many more driving techniques, the list just goes on for me.

Plus and this is the main thing for me, I am the BOSS of the car I tell IT what to do I CHOOSE my gear not the car because I am the BOSS! :D

Really that\'s :censored: I\'m off there next weekend and I\'ll be at least 102db....

I\'ve heard of at least 4 race cars catching fire, there\'s a FamSpeed FD on one of the HotVersion DVD\'s that I\'ve got that cooks off after showing 2 tunded R35 who\'s boss on Fuji speedway. Fastest lap by about .5 seconds IIRC.

Then on the cool down lap it does excatly the opposite.:flamed

@B.MArtin

V-mounts will need some pipework modification obviously but you can often use the stock fans and rad dending on the kit.

As the rad isn\'t in the way driectly any more there will be plenty of airflow through the stock bumper, if you want to go after market and increase the apature that can only help.

The main thing with V mounts is pipework, mounting points and depending on the intercooler size you many need to shuffle the battery and fuse boxes. Large FMIC\'s have similar problems but behind the bumper. But rememeber if you don\'t go with a massive IC size it makes these easier (power level dependent, everything depends on everything else).

Vented bonnets are not that much more useful when the car is hooning along but static and low speed will help rising heat escape and disapate heat soak to some extent.

You can always pop and see Carl for a V mount if you fancy an all in one job, mine works nicely and it\'s of to the \'Ring for a full test in a couple of weeks. :D

I\'m gonna get flamed for this I know.....

It depends what you want to do with the car:

A) If its for a quick blast on the road or a daily drive thats not going to get the crap kicked out of it, (wide open throttle less than 2% of the time) then save the cash and go front mount.

B) If you\'re a mental and like to go fast all the time, or intend to drift or track the car fairly regularly V mount will help keep the temps (air and water)under control under sustained abuse.

I fit in the mental/track catergory so i went for option B) and saw a big difference in temps especially air intake temp. :D

Take your time and choose carefully if tyou have to save up sometimes its worth waiting in the long time, I\'ve learned this lesson the hard way.... ;)

Quote from: Grant Monkhouse;771139What about the guys that swap the 2jz into the silvia s15\'s for drifting? They don\'t seem to have understeer.:D:D:rollin:rollin

If you like the power over on an S15 with the 2J you\'d love an AE86 with a 650hp turbo\'d 20B, now thats funny! :chat

Quote from: BlitzBoy;771118You will note the weight is more at the back not at the front on those Fezzas LOL
a 2JZ in a FD will be like 60/40 :Giggle

It\'s alright I\'m not that stupid, at least not yet, my point was 50:50 weight isn\'t the be all and end all of handling performance, if it was Porsche would be in the drain by now (prays to dark gods).

If you shuffle a few bit\'s to the back of the car and mount the engine bang up against the firewall it won\'t be that bad I\'m sure. With the right spring rate ratio front to rear to even up the speed of weight transfer front and rear you\'d be able to iron it out a bit.

I reckon you\'d end up with 55/45 at worst if you spent the time and effort to sort it all out, thats about 65kilos more over the front axle, it won\'t handle the same but it\'ll still be better than most cars the low COG of the FD will help a lot too.

Someone should tell Ferrari they\'re doing it wrong :Giggle

Enzo Ferrari weigh dist.  43.9/56.1
458 Itallia weigh dist.    42/58

But I digest....

I think you should stick with the 2JZ it\'s different at least, just no more V8\'s.

And please for the love of all that is god and holy deffiniatly no flat four Sub(standard)aru engine, wait I think I\'ve just been sick in my mouth :2Rolleyes
