Well, were a step closer.....
The 105e has made its way into the workshop today as the Lada is ready to go to the painters.
Aside from distractions like funky mopeds and house extensions in the mix were getting this thing sized up.
The engine bay isnt the biggest, luckily nether is the 13b.
But first things first, it needs a good name, the Rotang is the best I can conjur up, if anyone wants to make any suggestions im happy to adopt the good ones :)

So ignoring the middle part of the bulkhead that slightly curves backwards....
The Anglia engine bay is 540mm long.
My 13b PP which will use a 12a front cover, if I use a 12a water pump it will be 470mm from bellhousing face to front pulley.
I don't want to cut the bulkhead up where the 2 x heater holes are at this point. So it's smuggle the engine up the trans a bit. Ditch the 12a water pump, smuggle the rad further in the front panel or relocate the rad to the boot which I'm not a fan of either
70mm gap is a bit skinny for a rad in this scenario.
For the eagle eyed amongst you.... you'll see the n/s chassis leg needs fitting as the first job. I have a new one to fit, just need to jig it all up first then get the engine in.
It also may end up being a left hooker too

It can be done, by removing the inner front panel and smuggling the radiator further forward.
A nice install of a 13b FD turbo with no bulkhead mods

And I, in my deep ignorance thought the Rotang would be a Rotary Mustang! :)) :)) :))
Somehow reluctant to suggest The Wanklia or The Rotlia as alternatives. Probably best to stick to The Rotang.

When bolting on the front cover I noticed another threaded hole near where the omp used to reside.
At first I thought it was for oil cooler, but there is a port on the other side of front cover and the other on the rear plate
So any ideas ??? A turbo return line ?
Btw the engine is upside down so the hole is below the omp lol

So .... This uses 60 degree bent intakes which is an old design.
The principle is the same on the latest design which just uses a 90 degree bend
So we have housings, 2" tubes, IDA flange, 55mm - 50mm itb's, tapered trumpets to a tuned length which will give peak hp at 9000 rpm. Then for lower rpm and to flatten the torque curve we have 100 extension tubes which will stay attached until a set point on the rev range then move upwards 35mm to allow the air to rush in on the lower trumpets.

Next piece of the puzzle
New billet tapered bore throttle bodies. Fuel rails 4 x injectors. Variohm tps
Just don't ask £
Very nice, did it come with a brain ?
Nope, just the throttle position sensor for now.
It's compatible with most popular ecu's. Haltech, link, motec etc
Just need to pick one that gives me the flexibility with the telescopic intakes.
But as that's only long and short positions, I'm using the vacuum actuator from the rx8 intake to control the lever, and that only needs 1 solenoid with 2 wires so should be easy

lol oh studied that to death
Hence it's not the chosen direction. The R26b is a fantastic engine with full telescopic actuation which will fine tune the whole torque curve.
Mazda used, so I believe in the day , windscreen wiper motors for controlling the Bowden cables in conjunction with potentiometers.
Fantastic set up especially in its day, and potentiometers are great, but wear out... but fine for a 24 hours race. Where it can then be replaced.
I need something with a bit more "reliability" if that's the correct word.... Nope longevity! And stepper motors are the best thing for accuracy but limited on speed compared to the size of the motor required.
You can still broaden the torque curve massively by a two stage process of long and short. And all the top motorcycle manufacturers are using a two stage which means it must work.
F1 cars use a 3 stage process of similar ilk, opposed to the full blown r26b variant.

2 x anti roll bars for the front.
I don't know if any other cars do this or it's a ford Anglia thing....
The race cars clamp to two bars together with 6 clamps, 2 at front and 2 down each side.
There is talk about a gentleman who fits one clamp on the sides and changes the position up or down which adjusts the stiffness. Sounds logical to me and I'll roll with that idea.

No idea why Ford felt the German market was so different from the UK with the Taunus brand.

The short answer is that the Cortina's developers were copying the 12M. But now we're distracting way too much from the topic of the thread: Jamie's great Rotang project, so I'll end it there. ;)

If it comes to it, there's a fair amount of Zephyr and Zodiac in a Mustang...or maybe it's the other way around? Still none of them had a rotary so I'll leave the fascinating parts book analysis for another time :D

Nope not seen that one.
Looks a beast with 3 rotor PP
Some radical bulkhead mods there. Bit more than id like to carry out.

So not technically working in the shed, doesnt stop me collecting more parts in readiness for when i get back on it .
So these struts are the very first 105e struts built by Leda to the "Milton race car" spec. Valved for my predicted car weight etc.
They are based on mk2 cortina legs which have been swaged out to a larger diameter and the threaded collar is integral rather than a threaded tube welded around the outside.
This allows more oil, better for cooling.
I dun wanna talk about price lol but theyre pretty and shiny

These look nice though.
Pleased to see you back on it again :great:

Remember me?
Well i cant post a million pics on tapatalk in one go, so ill show one and youll have to use your imagination.
However this weekend showed that the anglia is not as fresh as one would have hoped.
Horrendous welding, floor pan held together with underseal and seam sealant, chassis legs shot.
So it will take a different turn, i see this as an opportunity for jamie to do what jamie does.

Fibreglass? No more exotic

A lot of nice, fresh metal going in there :13:
Really good productive day today.
Clamped and welded the back half of the shell to the chassis jig. Got everything level on both planes to within 0.1 degree. Set the string line right down the length of the car so its central to the sills.
Welded the front of the sills down. Then had to push the inner wings over by 3mm to get the dummy front cross member central and in line, then made location points for the front anti roll bar mounts
All 4 key points bang on in line, probably straighter than when it left the factory.
Then set to cutting the rotten chassis legs, front beam and lower half of the inner wings off.
Everything was really crusty but the worrying thing is i had this thing rotating on the rotisserie mounting of these crusty areas.
Well an evening of 3D CAD and start building new chassis rails

Lol nice try.
Track far too wide for the anglia and i like the original shape of the arches. Now if my name was carlos fandango i may take you up on that.
Already made significant investment on suspension parts already and chassis rails went in today..... to be continued......

Another great day
More photos of chunks of steel im afraid. Largely all held together with rope and wood

Firstly i love my new tube notcher, so accurate and quick too. Not bad for "Clarke of China"
First base rails going in. Yes i know its ROPT510 but its easier to form with my tube bender.
Bear with.... The long rails are the same width apart within a gnats ding dong of the original chassis rails. The car is going to be low so jacking points originally under the car now come through the sill and front wing, which are positioned under the foot plates of the roll cage when that goes in.
The strange kick up of the rails has purpose. The highest point near the bulkhead is the same height of the original chassis rail and then it goes down 5 degrees till the underside is the same as the original chassis rail for the anti roll bar mounts.
I need to get a bit creative for the front crossmember mounts, but shouldn't be too difficult.
All will be tied back to the inner wings and bulkhead. The floor will be steel too so its not a spaceframe chassis but does utilise the materials
More design tomorrow and get the anti roll bar mounts made before my hols(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20250825/b313fba69159855bd89c640b0bbb2f57.jpg)

Removed the pigs head from the axle to find a 3J driveline plated LSD diff and 3.54 cwp, look very new too. Saved be a few £££ as i wanted to buy that spec. Cut the rear cover off for an atlas axle mod to run watts linkage

Wow, some great progress there Jamie, you have been busy :great:
If you still need an answer on those mystery holes, let me know and I'll take a look (but away until Friday).
Without taking a look, I would guess most would be for the the oil filter mounting?
I think i sussed it, most of them will get plugged up as im running a remote filter mount on the wing somewhere and an external line loop from the original filter housing to the front plate.
I may be running solid dowels and the oil can no longer run down to the front plate. So its an external line.
More toys arrived today

But not before i set the axle up, ring welded on to accept the atlas axle finned rear cover.
Stock English axles have a welded plate on the back and the diff comes out the front.
The alloy cover allows inspection of the diff without pulling half shafts out. Has a provision for watts linkage too.
Set the axle tubes with around half a degree of negative camber with some heating up and tweaking because previously they had positive camber.
Also welded on new bosses for filling and draining oil

Wow, just wow!
Some great progress and the workmanship looks awesome too (as I'd expect from you Jamie :icon_thumleft: ).
Really looking forward to this being completed.
When you come to getting the prop made use these, as I was so impressed with the new prop they made after disasters with another company called Vibration Free.
Now there was a name that took the mick !
https://www.northwestpropshafts.com/ and they were really cheap/
I think it was £280 for a complete new prop as the other was junk.
To put this introspective, one of my competitors with an Escort has just paid Bailey Motorsport £1800 and was sick as a parrot when I explained how the guys above ensured I had a prop fit for purpose
Cheers for the heads up..... got a prop shaft company in the next town....
Ive used them for 4 props now. They're pretty cheap too.
But the guy is coming up to retirement but im gonna need one very soon

Yup, working on bulkhead and transmission tunnel now, plating up where the master cylinders used to be.
Chassis rails to be added, minimum weight maximum strength in addition to the tube already there. And finish off the anti roll bar mounts
