Ah, the Opel GT. Looks of a Hollywood design studio fantasy. Unfortunately, it handles like the car it's based on, the Kadett B.

Here's a question for the ultimate rotary expert, Clive: I was just told by a reliable source that the centercaps on my steel wheels are from an Rx-3 (like the car on the right in the pic above). If so, what do the original Rx-2 centercaps look like?

It's not hate. It's necessity. This happens when they sell cars so cheap, they have to maximise workshop revenue to keep the dealerships afloat.  :))

Steve found a picture today I hadn't seen before from when my FD was nearing competition.

I was lucky in that I was offered a proper brand new drop in Mazda crate motor that came with Turbo's full wiring loom and even a new alternator, never saw one before and never seen one since. 

This was one of the very first single Turbo cars to be built over here some 20+ years ago-------------seems like yesterday.

Originally a black car, allegedly owned by Jonathan Ross, this is one of the cars I still miss after it went off to Greece  :(

God knows how but it was squirreled away in a container in Luton but with no engine.
 
Maybe 20 years ago when it saw the light of day, off it went to Rotechnicks and had a 13B fitted.

The car ended up being owned by Clarmont Corvette and around 5 years ago the founder owner died and I was told that the car was going to be shipped off to the States for Auction -------That was the last I heard of the little red Corvette, unless you know different.

Still can't believe this was 16 years ago, this was the announcement of the Anniversary RX-8 which wasn't an Anniversary model at all!

It was a grey car painted white with a white interior and badges that were taken off and shipped back to Japan straight after Goodwood,

I think, few years ago, with unbelievable luck they found that Corvettes original engine, and it was in UK.

They sent it to US and its been overhauled and going back to its original place

So, now, that car should be whole again

With the 24 Hour of Le Mans running today its a good day to post this. 

The 1974 24 Hour of Le Mans also saw the first attempt to qualify a Mazda Rotary Engine production vehicle, a 12A powered Mazda RX-3... but Claude Buchet failed to qualify for the 24 hours race that year.

At the 1975 24 of Hour of Le Mans, local French Mazda Dealer, Claude Buchet did qualify his RX-3 in 50th out of 55 entries, but retired around the half way mark of the race. This was his second attempt at the great race in a production based RX-3. Mazda was starting to make progress at Le Sarthe.

The second generation of the RX-7 ("FC"), still known as the Mazda Savanna RX-7 in Japan, featured a complete restyling much like similar sports cars of the era such as the Nissan 300ZX. It is also known as the FC3S, powered by the 13B rotary turbo charged engine.

Haha. Yes, it's as far East as Cologne, but still Western Bloc.  :D  It's a Series 2 Ford 12M, the follow-up of German Ford's Cardinal project, which mobilised Ford UK to plan the Cortina mk1, which they jokingly called the "Archbishop". Of course, the Germans had a little bird in mind, not a high-ranking cleric. The series 2 12M is like am under-powered German answer to the Cortina mkII.

The 12M had the notorious 1200cc Ford V4 engine. Same as SAAB got for their 96. There were bigger models, too: the 1500cc 15M, the 1700cc 17m and the V6 20M, all they way up to the 26M (2,6 litre Cologne V6). Over here we have Ford M-clubs in every fjord. I'll find some 12M series 1 pics and some others, Just give me a few minutes.  :great:

Top: the 1200cc V4 engine from the little wonder you posted. Next: a series 1 12M with its cute tail lamps; a series 1 17M (would be really cool to put a 13B rotary in one of these!!!); a 20M and a 20M wagon. There were som great wagons for all M models, usually they were called Turniers.

Btw, I might be wrong, but I seem to remember SAAB got the 1500cc V4, perhaps also the 1700cc, but not the 1200cc.

Would be an act of mercy. The Cologne V4s were noisy, thirsty and fairly gutless.
I had a 1965 ford Corsair 2000e which im sure was the same cologne derivative.  Was a 3 speed auto box. Yup gutless, but sooooooo smooth like it ran on double cream.

All these are screaming for a rotary restomod.

I find it bizarrely interesting the strong links between Mazda and Ford. Im sure Ford tipped in lots of money over the years which helped with the development of the rotary side of things. The ford fiesta / Mazda 121 was inevitable I guess. The latest duratec is actually a Mazda L engine.

I'm just surprised ford never had a rotary factory model. Maybe Mazda had a contract that just said "mine"! Lol

I'm sure it's blindingly quick and all the rest of it but can't help thinking if you wind up so far from where you started that there is so very little left of the original...why did you start there in the first place? A space frame would seem more logical - assuming that is not what this is. If it is...is it really an FD at all?  :)

Some 20 Years ago when I bought our RX-4 off Tim Nash, he told me about his exploits as a Mazda Rally driver and showed me his scrap book. Happily he has now put some pictures up of his Mazda Team.   

These are on the 1974 Lombard RAC Rally. The two colour photos are on the Clipstone and Sutton Park stages and the black and white photos are of the Rx3 and B1600 plus Rx3 wagon service cars at Llandrindod Wells after retiring. A 20 year old me driving and Co-driver was Dave Whittock

Along with a previously Porsche powered Beetle Paul Newman had a Volvo with a supercharged small block Ford V8 built so he could get away from his fans if they spotted them at traffic lights.

Obviously forgot where his money came from in the first place to then build the cars so he could escape  ::) .

A strange detail strikes me. If this is a 1968 car as advertised, why does it have the series 2 front with the wide air intake? Also, the sills look like they might be hiding a surprise or two. Suspect it is an older restoration. Wonder what state it was in before work started... 🤔

Yup familiar with that. RE Amemiya lotus europa.
3 rotor NA hooked up to a subaru legacy gearbox being used as a transaxle either front drive shafts driving the rears. With the tailhousing removed and blanked off.

In the final iteration they lost the rear wing and mounted underneath where the diffuser would reside.

9 RX-8's gathered for breakfast just south of Bury St Edmunds yesterday and then went for a run up through Thetford Forest. A great day for it and very enjoyable.

We randomly stopped about half way around the drive for a group photo and by an incredible coincidence, ended up parking outside the home of an NSU Ro80 owner! He spotted us, came out and offered to take his (stunning condition!) car out of the garage to join us in the pic! I then remembered him from a rotary meet in 2021 at Phil Blake's place - Andy, was lovely to chat to him again.

Just found an old DVD that someone sent me years ago.

yes !, still get out and about to a few local meets , I think i must of done at least 4oo miles this year  :))

Ive got an F Type for a daily drive now , probably more economical than the FD (Just) ;D

The FD though is still exactly the same as it ever was,  I changed the rear bumper about 10 years back,
so the Front is Red , the roof is pink and the rear is Orange, well to me , its probably not that bad really, but suddenly its quite an old car now !!

Good idea! That renders obsolete something like 4 camshafts with gears and belts, 48 valves with guides and springs, 12 cylinders, pistons and piston rods, 36 piston rings, 6 plugs and cables, and a foot of crankshaft, not to forget the meat that comes with it. Should save a few grammes! 🤔

This very nice, French coffee table book came out back in 2006. Never heard of it before, but a copy suddenly popped up for sale online. Got a good chapter on Mazdas, which amongst other things includes driving impressions of the R100 by Jean-Pierre Beltoise (from a 1970 car review)! I would be using this book to revive my school French if I'd had any at school. Did do some self-teaching in the 90s, though, so there's hopefully something to revive anyway. Ventrebleu, quelle libre!   :D

Rx3 heading down The Corkscrew at Laguna Seca last week. It came 4th in a shoal of Datsun 510s.
