My wheels are turning scabby! I can\'t afford new ones, plus I like the stock TII wheels.

As I like shiny things, I also thought I could use my polishing skills on my wheels too!

I don\'t know if anyone else has tried to keep these wheels clean, but you can\'t, they are too "spokey". So I intend to smooth the entire wheel (including between the spokes, making them easier to keep clean) then paint and laquer the wheel but leave the front face polished!

Here is what I intend to do;

  • Clean the wheels thoroughly, using Hydroflouric Acid
  • Rub down the bits to be polished with a fine wet n dry
  • Polish those parts, then carefully cover with Vasaline (leave it alone Bish;) )
  • Use a filler primer on the entire wheel  until all surfaces are smooth
  • Apply black gloss to cover all the primer
  • Once the gloss is nice and hard, apply a coating of laquer
  • Clean off the Vasaline and all the overspray that settled on it (easier than masking)

Would this work? Or am I just wasting my time?
Help me please:o  I don\'t wish to ruin my wheels any further:(

Heres a pic to prove what a b!tch they are to clean (takes me 30mins per wheel:eek: )

This could go on for a while:rolleyes:

I\'ll give you a clue ............... How many birds can you see in full flight, not sat on roofs, but in full flight?;)

Paint em matt black?
I know its not shiny but i think they would look great

Sean

I\'m too scared to try something that drastic. I would rather try something not so obvious at first, in case it goes tits up:rolleyes:

Gloss black is fairly drastic too m8!

Bizarrely, I am thinking about doing exactly the same thing but with matt black - prob in a month or so. (Also have to respray the car Matt Black too :D (leaving the bonnet Gloss for that JDM street racer look!)

In theory is should work, years ago a mate did exactly that with the wheels off his XR2. Once it\'s done DO NOT clean them with a jetwash, and be bloody careful who you get to change your tires!

Cheers Mr. Goth,

All taken on board, and I think I\'ll give it a bash. I\'ll let you know how I get on with them (watch this thread).

But with regards to your hood/bonnet. Aren\'t you supposed to spray your bonnet matt black and leave the rest of the car in gloss to keep the sun from the reflecting in your face? Or am I just making myself look stupid due to my complete lack of comprehension:rolleyes:

Sean, You are prob right about that, but I haven\'t had any sun glare issues so far + I like the idea of a matt black car :D
