I have just noticed a problem with my clutch...

When the car is left (over night, or while at work) the clutch stops working, and needs \'pumping up\' to get it going once you\'re back in the car.

The fluid level is at max, and there are no visable leaks.  I will be bleeding the system out at the weekend, but am a bit owrried that it might be the master cilinder.
What do you guys rekon?  And how much am I looking at for a master cilinder?  (Grinder, have you still got one from the car you\'re breaking?)

It\'s not a terrible problem as it works fine when it\'s used, but it is a bit annoying!

Cheers,
Will

I had a similar problem on an old celica, does sound like its the cylinder or booster(?) not sealing properly.  Not too a bad a job to change them though...

You may have a pressure leak from the system, over time it looses pressure but once driving it you keep it topped up by using it.

That was my thought mate, hence checking for leaks!  But the fluid level doesn\'t change, which let me to the master cilinder.  Can you think of anywhere else that the pressure could be leaking off, but not using any fluid?

When you said leaks i presumed you meant fluid leaks ;)

The only place I could think it would lose pressure would be through the cap, anywhere else an you would have stuff leaking out.  Although I had a problem on my first Gen where the rubber was perished in the master/slave cylinder (can\'t remember which) that meant it there was not enough pressure to operate it properly.

hmmmm....

Maybe it is just some air in the system.  I was a touch suspicious that the level of fluit was slightly over max, which got me thinking that the garage I bought from might have just stuffed some more in there if it was low, and not bothered to bleed the air out of the system.

Know my recent luck with cars it\'ll be something REALLY serious, which would need something more expensive than the car to fix :(
