its time for a new car, i have 6k maybe 7.5k at a stretch for a car. been looking at imprezas, supras etc.
what i want to know is what sort of rx7 could i get for my money, good clean car or a bit of a dog? and why should i buy a rx7 instead of say a supra 3.0 N/A version or any other jap performance motor for that matter?

cheers :wave

Against a N/A supra a rx7 would perform much better ,it is at the very least on par with the twin turbo supe, id say better but i am a little biased ;). scoobys/evos are a diff type of car really so depends what you prefer, 4wd drive rally slag or rear wheel drive monster :)

There seem to be some good deals about for that sorta money, couple for sale on here i think for 7500, 8000. If you take your time you should be able to find a good \'92/\'93 in your budget, maybe even with fairly recent re-build if your lucky.

Running cost wise, the services ive had have been about 250, good policy to change oil every 3000, only bad thing is the mpg, if your using it for commuting could prove a prob?

Good points for me, handling, power (amount and smoothness :) ), jaw-dropping looks, and having something that little bit different...theres not another jap marque i\'d choose, if i had to, r34 gtr maybe but then were talking mega-bucks, for what is really not a huge leap forward, and theyre about twice as costly to tune (and no way near as pretty:) )

thats my 2p, hope it proves helpful to ya matey ;)

the car would just be an evening and weekend car, have another run around for work etc (even tho work is only 5 miles up the road :D  ) so mpg is not really an issue.
so is there anything i should be looking out for when buying a rx7, at the moment it seems to be my car of choice, just something about them i like. so if all goes to plan end of next month my search will start.

Utterly gorgeous.  Spellbinding handling.  Unbelievably rapid.  Incredibly rare.  Ticked all the boxes for me!

Don\'t worry too much about the MPG.  Mine is my daily hack and I drive it all over the place during work, just temper your left foot a little.  If you work so close MPG really won\'t be that much of an issue.  Myself I\'ve never understood the point of a car you can\'t use! ;)

supra 3.0 N/A is a wee bit lame imo. A supra needs turbo power to hall its heavy ass about.
Arnt they 8 seconds to 60?:rollin

I guess in truth you are gonna possibly require more than $7.5k to buy a really good rx, true you may get a decent one for around $8k mark but if your budget starts to stretch at $7.5k then you are probably better suited to another performance car.

Why? - well if you buy a decent rx for $7.5k then it goes and throws a seal you will need a further $3k to rebuild the engine!!! do you have that?? if so keep going bro.

However you can also get a rebuilt engine rx7 for around the $8k mark too so make sure you make a note of mileage of any rx´s you are going to view.

the reliability of the rx7 does put me off a bit :( , and your right if the engine went bang straight away i could not aford a rebuild straight up , couple of months later may be, but not if it went pop in the first month or so. But then i would only ever buy a car after getting it checked and knowing it was a sound motor.
Oh i dont know, think ill just get the money together at the end of next month and see what i have and whats about at the time. :(

from what i have heard you will have running cost issues with ALL cars

dont wrx throw engines occasionally and the thransfer box\'s can go ??? just what i have heard to i could be wrong

yeah its expensive for a rebuild - but once that is done - they are cheap to run - just change the oil and plugs - and thats not expensive :)

RX7`s sure are gorgeous, but there is a reliability problem. If you`re at the top of your budget buying one then it`s scary to contemplate an engine rebuild soon after. The N/A Supras are indestructable but an N/A is all show and no go. They are quite quick but not electrifying. There is a mega mint one on mkivsupra.net at the minute for 5k, so they`re cheap enough. But with your budget i`d have thought that you`d be more comfortable with a Scooby. Leave it standard and not only will it be quick but it`ll last if you look after it.
