Hi,
I have a strange problem with my stereo which I have never come across before.  Its been the same since I fitted it 6 months ago, Ive just never got around to sorting it out until now.  I have a Sony CD Headunit connected to the 2 original door speakers, 2 JBL 5 x 7\'s in the rear panels and an Infinite Basslink in the bot (to save space) which as usual is fed from the battery via 1cm thick power cable and a \'power connections\' gold fuse (cant remember the handling capacity but sure thats fine - especially as it doesnt blow), phonos from the head unit to the Sub and your remote wire as per usual.  Funny thing is, when I turn the stereo up half way exalty, its all fine.  As soon as I turn it on notch higher, as soon a the first bass note kicks in, the head unit powers down for a coupe of seconds then switches itself back on.  I figure this is to protect the head unit from shorting, but then, why would it???  The Basslink only takes power from the head unit by means of the remote cable and signal by means of the phonos, so that shouldnt be causing the problem should it?
cheers

1 - what happens when the basslink is disconnected?  Does it still do this? (easiest way would be to remove the fuse I guess!)

2 - The remote and the power are round the right way?

3 - what\'s the earth for the basslink and the head unit like?

dunno other than that at the mo...

i would hope that the power comes from the battery and that the remote links just tells the amp thingy to turn on ( unless i read it wrong )

sounds like you are getting a power surge thru the stereo though - cant be a good sign

double check the cable and check all the earthing points

Hi Grinder, I meant the Head Unit must send a very wee amount of power down the remote cable to the Baslink, just enough to tell turn a relay on in the bass link to tell it to start darinin the 12v battery  :)

Ive always thought the Arch Bishop to be a bit of a thickie, but I stand corrected!  ;)

I think youve both solved what I should have thought of myself.  The earth point.  I remember now, that when i fitted it, I couldnt find a very good earth point close to the basslink and I didnt have a very long cable, so I scratched away a portion of paint from a hole in the boot floor (where the pin for the luggage strap goes I think) and screwed the earth to that.  It keptcoming out though, so I used a biggr bolt and was very happy about it, but was late for going out and so just shoved it all in.  It worked so I forgot about the dodgy connection.  Any recommendations as to where I should earth it too?

THICKY!!!!!  Slag whore bitch!!!  I are a genius!!

I don\'t see why that shouldn\'t be a bad earth, provided the screw in it is a tight fit, and the wire is connected to it adequately.

Other earthing places are the bolts holding the rear lock hatch on, suspension strut bolts, and similar bolts-by-mazda that can be used.

i would go with that bish says

failing that , scratch the paint off some where - then get some sand paper and make it nice and clean - and then screw the ring/spade connector down with a self tapping screw - it will never come loose this way :)
