The car i was trying to sneak into the country untill Clover rumbled me has a T88 turbo, and i planned to you it almost exclusively on the drag strip.  But know how undrivable this will be in the real world is it possible to fit a smaller turbo(T45 perhaps) as well, and make it so you can switch between the 2?

There plenty of space in the engine bay just wondering if it was actually physically possible.  Ive heard rumours about it before, and i know it would be pricey but what a car to own.

anyone know?

if the flange on the manifold is the same u wont have a proble just a few hours work each time and make shure u dont put mad boost through a small turbo
when your life is a mess light one more ciggaret its so logical!

It is possible to switch turbos....................................................................................................Mazda did it on there RX7, they have sequential turbo\'s  :D
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

is there no way of electronically switching between using your T88 turbo and the presumed T45?

Dont see how your going to do it?  You need a nice gas flow around the turbine and if you start messing around with valves etc you will knacker the flow characteristics.  It may well be possible but I think you will lose performance from both due to this.

.... you just stick with the t88 and run N/A for the journey to the strip and back? The added weight of a second tubby and the problems with flow may not make it worthwhile. A great trick if you could pull it off though!

To make the car a really decent drag car u will have to make too many compromises in other areas that will make the car unstreetable any way e.g. drag orientated suspesion setup, weight loss, harsh diff to take your T88\'s power etc etc. So even with 2 turbos its still probably going to be crap on the road.

Having said that - u ever driven an (I\'m presuming) RX7 with a big turbo - or any single for that matter? yes they spin up a bit/quite abit later - but its not like u dont have ANY power low down!?

If u want a seriuos-ish drag car then u seriously are better off keeping the red one too for the road.

My car runs a T78 at the mo, and theres no problem in driving around the streets??

TBH its not that different from the twin set up rx7\'s but obviously when you go over 4500rpm then theres serious boost!!!

Anything is possible, but that would be a BIG job.  Be easier to bypass the turbo and run \'na\' than have an extra smaller turbo.

Keep the large turbo, run a variable boost controller through the ECU which changes all the mixtures etc. based on boost.  Easy with a good ECU - but you would spend a lot of time and money on it and tuning it for that scenario.  May be worth it if it is a daily???
Thanks,

Being serious........If you want low down boost with out restricting the air flow, an option which will work is to fit a supercharger, this will give you low down boost but not bother the exhaust air flow, it will also help the big T88 spool up quicker.

Dragons black car has T88 and thats creats boost at 3.5 to 4k rpm. So as mentioned above you wont have a big problem, but as Rich says, with everything else you need to do to make it quick on the strip you wont have a streetable car anyway.   Also by the time you have fitted either a T/C or a 2nd S/C and got it working and mapped you could have converted your red one to a big single for a lot less money.  No point buying a car all sorted from Japan and then changing it all, it defeats the object, you might aswell convert a stock to exactly how you want it.
