Hi guys,

Just trying to get some thoughts on this..... I have an \'83 12A that is currently dead. The seals have gone on the number 1 rotor.

My local Mazda dealer ( I\'m in Limerick, Ireland ) has given me a fairly reasonable price to rebuild my engine. The only problem is that it\'s probably the first rotary they have dealt with except for the RX-8 sitting in their showroom. The guy who owns the dealership didn\'t even know what my car was!

Should I let them rebuild it considering their relative lack of experience? I suppose what I\'m really trying to ask is would they be able to carry out a decent rebuild with the right info/instructions etc from Mazda HQ? And what kind of warranty should I expect to get on the rebuild.

Thanks guys.

I would be more inclined to find a copy of the mazda manuals buy the parts from a specialist and do it myself as thats all they will be doing.

Have you spoken to "eddy doyle" (Bray/Dublin)?
He has rebuilt several rotary\'s and in fact will be rebuilding mine in a few weeks.

I reckon the 12A would be the least complicated of all the Rex\'s to rebuild, so get the books and do it yourself!
Although my other half did get fedup of finding the dishwasher full of engine bits.....
so many horses, so few parts....

I would actually like to try a rebuild myself at some stage, but realistically.......I don\'t have any tools or mechanical experience. I took my rear shocks off recently and that was my crowning glory!

I just want to be sure it will work after the rebuild.....hence I wont be doing it myself!!:D

I will get in touch with Eddy. It\'s alway good to hear there is actually someone else in Ireland with a rotary. Mine\'s been off the road now for a month or so and I\'m really missing it. The pug 106 diesel van just isn\'t quite the same thing!!

Slugg,

You\'re not alone, there are more of us here in Ireland! Like you to, mine is off the road and sits patiently & forlornly on the driveway awaiting resurrection.

Good to hear there are a few of us about.

I think I\'ll start a new thread to find out how many Irish rotaries there are :)
