Cars a long way away from being ready for this season ATM, serves me right for ripping apart a perfectly good car, just because it wasn't fast enough, we now just have a big hole !! 😉

Seriously, between Steve and myself we ended up cutting a bit more out of the car than anticipated.

BTW the Rack above had no chance of fitting as everything was wrong when I matched it up!

Flipping heck
Wow , Clive that's  hell of a hole .
Will that affect the structure integrity ?
Is the plan to land the engine In then build/ fabricate everything back on the firewall ?
Would have liked to have seen how it looked when the engine was dry fitted in the place you wanted it .
Just a thought , as an example , if the 3 rotor is say 150 mm longer
Would the balance be better that it was moved back half so 75mm ?
Good luck

Nah, I could get a Viper V10 in there  >:D .

Wayne, once we know what fits where, a new metal fire wall will get welded in.

Trying to not have the engine as far forward as all the other RX-8 builds I have found.
I think many are just leaving the engine down at the back, but this means the sump hangs very low.
Not an issue on a road car but I really need the sump flat with the subframe, hence the little hole.

Work permitting, I should be offering the engine back up on Monday, so then I will have more info.

Finally I have the engine / Gear box sitting where I want it to.

Reading the 2023 rules I have got to keep the engine the right side of the bulkhead after all.

You will see from the picture showing the black hose sticking up that I have had to come forward more than I hoped, one plus is that the MX5 "quick" rack that is slimmer can be fitted in the stock location which keeps geometer intact and lets me have the engine a lot lower than with the Fat RX-8 rack.

Like most projects its turning into something more than anticipated and due to the longer engine sitting at the front the Anti Roll bar has to be relocated and the radiator, water system, alternator  and intercooler assembles re-engineered to fit and work.

Great news'
It's all prepress
I know there's  a lot of " what the regs say " do you think they will check that much Clive if you kept it back in inch or 2 ?

Problem is, it would be obvious as the upper intake would give it away  ;)

Progress, the manifolds fit and the exhaust clears the steering plus the alternator fits down the other side :)
Engine mounts next.

Made more progress.

Engine is now properly mounted with a much modified kit that was designed to hold up a 350 Chevy engine.

Radiator now relocated and new brackets made, also it should have better airflow as its now more upright.
As you will see in the image though the radiator has got to be remade along the top to get the top hose in a different place.
Also this time rather than the RX-8 fans a Davis Craig fan will go on the back that has a 1000 CFM flow, that should help.

Another piece of the jigsaw arrived as the Full Function Engineering 20B-RE Trigger Hall kit has arrived from America, along with the extra pair of AEM coils.

Steering rack proved to be a challenge after realising the MX-5 potentially could have caused bump steer.

Re- butchered the RX-8 rack down to the bare bones and some and it now fits under the lowered now forward engine.

Next challenge is the front Anti Roll bar that will need to sit some 6 inches forward with new brackets to hold the drop links in the correct place on the lower arms.
Spent all day on that one and at least another day will be needed to get that saga finished and out the way.
