The Rx3 Nikki was finally put to a proper test. And it works!

Happy Rotary Holidays!

Have a few tiny projects planned, but first and foremost Noriaki is getting to stretch his legs.  ;)

This improvement made the rear bumper look even more sorry for itself...

Nice - TBH, in the video, the original surrounds (andthe bumper) look very good anyway. But, newer is always shinier  :notworthy:

Thanks! Everything looks better in the movies  ;D
Modern digital camera tech's playing its tricks here. The old surrounds badly need re-chroming. Surface of the indicator ones is like 1000-grit sand paper.

More small jobs ticked off. Put back the rear lamp reflectors so the reversing lights don't light up with the main/brake lights. Now lamps have the correct half moon shape when lit. Tidied up the rear lamp wiring. Gave the brake master cylinder a coat of hammerite & with that removed one of several engine-bay eyesores. Adjusted the window winders (don't get me started on the door card clips  :angry5: – Mazda's worst patent ever?). Began prepping for the dash crossbar paint job, too.

Well done  :icon_thumleft:

It's so satifying to tick off items on the list of things that need doing, however small.

Reminds me of the question, "How do you eat an elephant?" - one bite at a time  :)

More elephant bits  ;)
Rust spot on the dash cross-bar has disparued. It was 27C today, so good for spray painting. Crack on dash pad still needs sorting, hand brake boot is gonna be renewed very soon, the headlining on the c-posts needs tightening up a bit, and then new carpets are going on the wish list. In short, Noriaki could have a proper interior soon!  :))

Uh-oh. This always signals trouble ahead. 😱 We seem to have got ourselves a self-adjusting distributor. On the lead circuit. Everytime the ignition is about to go off song, the rev counter warns us by dropping 1000 revs or so. Then another 500. Or by doing a jolly dance up and down the register.

This time we barely got back across the bridge without stalling. Started well, though. Noriaki was running extraordinarily smoothly for the first hour, before we turned upwind and headed back. Now back in garage, scratching our heads again...  ::)

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Any advice appreciated!

Rear ignition cable on lead was faulty. Have replaced both on that circuit, but not test-driven yet. Having torrential rains. Granted, Noriaki isn't made of sugar, but to test ignition systems in these downpours doesn't seem like a good idea...  ;)

BTW. Malcolm: As an instrument wizard, have you got any idea what makes my rev counter do these dance moves? I'm not confident it has returned to normal yet. I'm running MSD-boxes on mechanic signal from the contact breakers. I wonder if the old 7mm ignition cables could be causing interference. In process of ordering replacements, and they will be 8mm.
