That looks to be in great condition!

I had to google "RX-7 GTU" as I'd not heard of that one. Seems it's very rare. No-one seems to know how many were made, but rumoured to be less than 100?

A few more were made, I think. According to Marc Cranswick's book, the GTU was introduced in 1988 as a "formalised" US version of the RX7 Sport. The name was to commemorate Rx7 success in the GTU race series. The GTU was "a light atmo car with the good rim/tyre/brake pack." It wasn't marketed very well, though, and sold only 2000 units in 1989 and another 400 in 1990 (Cranswick, p. 138). So this one will be one of the roughly 400 1990 cars.

That GTU model were made to celebrate Mazdas domination at IMSA GTO and GTU classes with RX-7s.

If you are not familiar with Mazdas sussecs at IMSA, long story short, they were really good. RX-7s were so good at these races, that even today, they arr more succesfull than even Porsche 911

Those Limited GTU roadcars, I think 2000 were made. And they are abit wanted, even tho its not that special. Basically, only stickers makes it special

If I remeber correctly, only few colors were available at those models. White, black and red. Most of them are white.

And there has been some not original GTUs on market, forgerys basically

We knew these only as the 929 coupé with the dull, 2 liter four-banger. Easy to forget that they came with the turbo rotary engine in Japan:
