Yeah you can kinda get away with it on 2D forms.

But plonker here wanted a 3D shape, as if I don’t have enough to do lol.

I could have kept it simple, but when it was all finished I would have wished I push myself a bit more

I’m gonna cut some samples and chuck them through the oven see if they bubble up

Plan b if dont work...harvest some from production headlights. Ive put standard bugeye impreza headlights in oven at 150 for 10 mins to melt the bond and simply prised off the covers.
Then painted inards black sti style back in oven to resoften bond and voila back together and on ebay for 150 for the pair. ( bought for a tenner ea).
There will be loads of headlight lenses to chose from...hopefully you nail it.

So been playing today with 3mm acrylic

It’s goes nice n soft, the blank size I want I think I will do it at home, cleaner environment. And I can adjust the temp.

I’ll get in trouble if I fiddle with the works oven and the powder coat may not cure properly lol

Well I’ve learned something today.......
Polycarbonate front screens are not road legal in the uk

I’m not sure why as you can have polycarbonate wind deflectors on things like westfields, and bubbles on motorbikes....

Also I think the MSA and FIA may not allow it either, but side and rear windows are fine in polycarbonate.

So bought 2 pieces of poly today.

A 1000 x 500 x 3 piece at 19 quid summat

And the same size but margard spec which is scratch resistant at a mind blowing 53 quid

I’ll practice on the cheap stuff first lol

It's a safety thing I assume - polycarbonate scratches and is difficult to remove oil and water etc from.  You don't (have to) look through aero screens or bike fairings etc but you have no choice with a windscreen.  I don't think they've ever been legal for racing cars either. I remember being dispatched to the Pilkington works to collect the laminated screens for a sports car due to run at Le Mans. The ovens used to form coach windscreens were the only ones big enough to make them in those days and probably still are.  They would give you three goes to get the fit perfect because the screens varied slightly depending how long they are fired and cooled for.  [The first one cracked but still had to be paid for!]  :)

Presumably the +2 screen came out of something else (like much of the rest of it?) so you should be able to find out what and order a replacement if it needs one, even if asking for one for a Lotus results in pained expressions and the suggestion it will cost a fortune. (The JDC began compiling a comparative parts numbers index years ago because Jaguar looted all sorts of bins for their bits and pieces but using the Jaguar number meant it came with a higher price tag. (E type headlights are from a Mini, the windscreen washers a Morris Minor, the arm rests out of a BMC lorry etc etc etc)  For the record, I'd have said A like Clive but it's sometimes NOT the thought that counts  ;D  Avid follower of progress so far - your productivity ultimately shaming to my armchair dreamer!

Nice post jinx.

Yeah I still have the original, was just trying to save some weight.

I’ve seen some screens flex so I wondered if it was raining and you were travelling at high speed that the wipers would only touch in certain places lol

The screen is the same for consul Capri and gulp reliant scimitar lol

Oh, in that case order one for the Consul :))
The Reliant option might attract exactly the same sort of winsome expression as asking for the Lotus item.

While we're on the subject...Consul Capri.... :love4:  I was looking at them on an ad listings site. If they had been made in Italy in small numbers they'd be even more expensive than they regrettably are now.  There was one for sale, close to me, re-upholstered in cream hide but otherwise standard. It was practically crying out for more oomph to be placed under the bonnet.  Armchair dreaming again  ;D

Reminds me I had three Consul Classics, one standard 1500 coverted to Cortina GT engined and the second with a Corsair 2000 engine and the final one, a Jaguar beater (at the time), with a Ford V6 mated to the 2000 gearbox. all lowered and with wider wheels (8J's were big then) but still on the standard brakes (silly me :dontknow:).

All converted myself, but still nowhere near to the standards that this project has reached.

I had a 2000e Corsair.

V4 with a 3 speed auto.

It was so smooth running.

Blue mink metallic with a black vinyl roof.

Loved it. 36k on the clock

Had drum brakes all round and used to get 4 wheel lock ups as the brakes out performed the skinny crossply tyres lol

The V6 would have been a proper romper stomper in its day and would have sorted out most other road cars out there, as I'm sure you will remember Ray  :great:
All the best Clive

Unfortunately for some of us they kept putting them in things with the same brakes they fitted to the 1300 version :D

Vis: Early 3L Capri that would not slow down when asked until finally locking all four wheels and leaving me sliding across a junction onto a petrol forecourt - the light having happily changed to green as I slid towards it.  It was, and remains, my fervent belief that I looked cool, calm and collected as I got out and sauntered across to the shop.  I imagine eye witnesses might have a different take.  ??? I drove back to the works extremely slowly.
