Well....

Back on it, like a car bonnet...... literally.

One of the hardest parts I’ve had to de-mould. So much surface area all gripping.

Look at that definition and crisp edges on the renesis shape

I’ve impressed myself lol

Ouch!

Bonnet work looking great though :sign0098:

Question......

So had the rear tyres light up a couple of times in the 8 and the trusty dsc kicked in.

Assuming this is monitored by the wheel sensors, I’m wanting to know how it is controlled???

Does the ecu kill ignition to suppress engine power or does the braking system control it or both?

I’m asking because I’m not running wheel sensors in the rotus because I’m not running the stock brake set up so abs etc is out the window.

If it just kills the ignition I may consider refitting wheel sensors.

Power to weight will be higher in the lighter car and while I’m all for stripping a car back to its bare essentials. I don’t want to leave this planet spinning 720 degrees and turning into a big ball of fire on my first bend of spirited driving.....

Just wondered how Jon’s westy is on traction on the rear end on the throttle ???

In that situation the throttle is closing itself off to limit the wheel spin

I ended up disconnecting my wheel sensors on the race car as the car had no power even going along the straights  ;)
All the best Clive

Jamie R

Ah ok so if it controls the throttle then the refit of sensors may be an option.

I’m certainly not in your hp league so I doubt I’ll be lighting wheels up on the straights

In part answer to your query Jamie.

It was a weird experience on a skidpan in my RX-8 shortly after I bought the car. An instructor asked me to deliberately get the car into a spin and then FLOOR THE THROTTLE  ??? (but with DSC fully on  ;)). I thought that's madness, but sure enough, ZERO response to the throttle whilst the DSC corrected the spin by independently braking on the wheels. Felt really weird that the engine just wouldn't rev whilst the DSC was sorting out the issue. It was massively educational to have multiple runs down the skidpan with the DSC on and then off to see just how clever the system was. Not foolproof, but was far better than me at controlling the skid until I got the hang of my first RWD car!

Ahhh so it does work through the brakes also.

That will explain the block connector that goes to the aluminium housing that all the brake lines go to in the engine bay.

Thanks for the response Malcolm.

Ok so at least I can get partial driver assistance maybe. Sounds like a bit of trial and error and keeping the wiring for the wheel sensors. I may have to introduce some fudge factor to fool the ecu for the omission of the aluminium brake module thingy.

Or learn how to control my right foot better on the accelerator

Strip it all out and stop being a big Nancy!!! The systems are set up for an rx8 and i believe would prob be detrimental on the Rotus as they turn out tobeon Clives car when the power doubled.

Westy has none thats what makes it great.

Lol just future proofing

I’ve made too many project vehicles where I’ve stripped everything down to the bare essentials and gone....... oh if only I had done xyz.

A Nancy boy it is then

Mmm not sure how gonna do that?...not abs but retain traction control?.
Ill have to look at drawings...i expect the signal to cut throttle comes from abs to pcm via canbus.  So youd need x4 working abs sensors...the abs block would need to see pedal pressure else it will fault...
Mmmm thinking cap on.

Aluminium block thingy....with loads of wires? Thats the abs module...all the wheel speed sensors go there among other things...
If has an internal pressure sensor and if that is showing zero will fault...

Maybe simpler to retain whole lot use the block....your pedal box dual or single master?....as the abs module set the front rear bias also....
Lots of headaches Nancy!!!

Needs Paul input as hes retained the abs dsc etc...youll need the yaw and the steering angle sensor 2 me thinks...
Ill get my head in drawings later.

Don’t stress about it. I was looking for a simple fix. My immediate intention at the start is rip the whole lot out.

It’s only recently I’ve noticed how easy it is to get the dsc to kick in on the 8.

If it all too complicated I’ll just train my right foot on the gas or feather it out of bends.

If it was a simple set up of just controlling the throttle body that’s one thing, if brakes are involved I’m not putting the complete stock set up back on there is physically no room
