No Clive it’s a very valid point.

Wish I had thought of it earlier. Certainly before making the cage. I would have done it differently around my head. Anyway ....

The build is a toss up between getting the body mounted properly and trying to think 10 steps ahead of what gets affected by each build stage.

The biggest issue with this build is the sheer lack of space with a lotus and trying to cram all the parts from a modern car in it.

We will get there.....

So idea.....

Rather than move the accelerator further back to go even further into the headers I’ll make a jig to locate the pedal position on relation to the brake on the 8.

Rotate the accelerator about the pedal and move the mounting forward which allows me to easily move the pedal back and give clearance on the headers.... the wiring for the fly by wire can then stay in the cockpit.

Thats a good plan. But still, you have to figure out some kind of joint or something to that pedal, cause when in full throttle, that pedal goes to weird position... :)

Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.

Just a thought,

To gain more room in the footwell, maybe if you mount the pedals upside down you can get the pedal pads closer to the floor and also lower the throttle pedal assembly ?.

If nothing else it may give a more comfortable driving position.
All the best Clive

I like the thought, unfortunately I had to buy floor mounted pedals with the m/c’s cockpit mounted.

The roll cage actually serves several purposes outside of the obvious of roll over protection. It also ties the steel sill members back to the backbone chassis with 6 transverse bars across the floor. One of which is at the furthest forward area at the bottom of the bulkhead.

This is the reason for m/c’s poking back into the cockpit.

The second reason for my choice of pedal box is the shape of my bulkhead.

Most cars, the bulkhead comes straight up from the floor to the bottom of the windscreen.

On the old elan ( and the baby elan and the Anglia 105e) the bulkhead is stepped.

It comes up, back towards the driver then up again. As per photo.

Admittedly the original lotus pedal box was top hung ( see the rectangular hole in the highlighted circle) but it wasn’t the best and flexed.

Thrown into the mix..... a renesis engine.

Yup I take on your point fully of driver position and 100% agree.

My only option with this chassis/body/engine combo was to bring the headers up into the engine bay taking up the room once used by a pedal box.

Believe me I spent hours under the car trying to run 3 pipes 38mm in diameter under the car, around the gearbox. Didn’t work.

It won’t beat me Clive. I WILL have this driving position comfier than a velvet chaise lounge in a Thai massage parlour
