re japi

I reckon good stock discs would be enough. However, I would be carefull with pads, too hard ones might crab, well really too hard...

Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.

I agree, stock disks and calipers on the 8 are very capable on track. As Jarno said, you will need to experiment with getting the right pad, but the lighter mass should mean less stress and heat. Could mean lower spec, =cheaper, pads may be best suited.

Thanks guys,

I think new discs all round are a must as part of the final build......... To put the old discs on after all this effort would be like hanging a chandelier in a haunted house.

Service the calipers, lick of paint and some of those hawk fast road pads from RBE.......

........god there's so much to do......

Most of the stuff I've worked on so far I can't buy off the shelf, so it's make it.

I need to turn a corner on it pretty soon, it's 2 years this Boxing Day

You gonna run the rx8 servo?
Only thing id add is get new slider pins for the caliper carriers as part of build up.

Nah no servo, floor mounted, bias pedal box, master cylinders pointing back into the cabin due to space constraints.

Ran the escort with no servo and it was fine under foot.

Don't suppose you know if slider pins come with a rebuild kit??

Was gonna replace the seals and dust boot

If you want to save some unsprung weight put mx5 nc brakes /discs on. Straight fit.
Front are smaller diameter and rears are single not vented

Plenty of stopping power given the weight of the mx5. Rotus should be fine

So little update............

...... still busy making the diffuser pattern, lots of body filler, sanding, usual stuff.

....finished the rear bumper pattern which will be moulded in lightweight GRP and not integral with the diffuser. Ill explain later when I post pics........... but gurney flaps are involved!  ;D ;D

Anyway, slightly diff topic......... cant find the paint code for mandarin orange, so for the ease of touching up as im bound to have a bang or scrape while im learning to drive again (track style not road style) ive decided on a standardised colour that anyone can obtain.

Introducing ............ RAL 2004 known as Reinorange in Deutschland or Pure Orange back in blighty.

Ok so just for reference ( possible power plant for next project shhhh )
How available / sought after are pre renesis naturally aspirated engines??

Maybe from the fc or earlier ......

Jamie R

In answer to my own question they must be rare, the price difference between renesis and older versions..... jeeez

It’s only from an appearance point of view. If I can get the renesis to run without all the added flaps solenoids sensors etc and go back to basics

You'll find even getting hold of a Rx7 engine a bit tricky. Best place is forums or the likes of specialist companies like Haywards rotary or colum (garage reg) in Brum

I wish it was as simple as chucking a set of throttle bodies or carbs on a renesis lolll
