Welcome back to the rotary world  :) I've had my RX-8 since new, so 11.5 years now. If you keep on top of the ignition components and change the oil every 6k then the engine will thank you for it!

Look around, with a full no-claims bonus you should get a much cheaper quote than that.

On the coils - beware, there are LOADS of fake coils on the market. If you fit a fake set, they can do more harm than good! Better to stump up and buy a set of the lastest Mazda OEM "C" spec coils from a reputable supplier. Oh, and if the original ignition leads are still fitted (black, thin and flimsy), ditch them for a decent set of Magnecor or similar. The original leads weren't much good when new, they'll be dreadful by now. They never sealed well against the plugs so the contacts on the leads and plugs would corrode!

Oil, don't use fully synthetic as it doesn't burn cleanly, use semi or mineral, preferably 10w40

Hi Kev,

Diesel oil is no good for any Rotary as its consistency is very different from "petrol" oil as it uses a lot of detergents to combat the heavy fuel oil ,

Running in oil has no guts to it and offers next to no bearing protection, personal  I would only ever use this to run an engine up ans then drop it to clean the engines oil system.

I have said many times over the years, good oil is soooooo much cheaper than an engine  ;)

Hope this helps
All the best Clive
