I would hzard a guess and suggest that the connectors at the rear of the head unit are loose we have seen this quite a few times, applying pressure to the front of the unit can sometime resurrect it. Is he waiting for the preflight checks (ie. air bag light going out) before starting the car as this can affect the display as well.Even if the unit proves to be faulty there are plenty available over here at little cost.

Hope this helps.
Sadly no longer with us, RIP Ray, 9 Feb 2021

Cool summit to try as cant see a direct correalation between engine change and cabin electrics.....

re japi

Yes, I didnt understand that either, how engine swap can affect interior electrics...

Ok, Ill tell him what you said :)
Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.

Id try a scan tool read as well mate. If my memory serves me correct the revs are done by canbus...no revs no beep. If there is an electrical system down it should show as a po code.

I bought some sparco pedal covers so i could get a bit more reach on clutch and close up the gap between throttle n brake for some braking throttle blips which i just cant do atmo as ive only got little feet....but the throttle pedal is plastic....worried it will be weakened and crack by drilling it? Anyone done this?
Side note...i lurk on rx8club....all the photos are locked on tapatalk...is this a permanent feature?

:) well started the day bit late as up from nights with a looksee at Neighbours 8 which did not make sense...occassionally refusing to go into 1st gear irrespective of clutch in/out or engine running....i thought id change the oil and look at the selector....looks like a bit of tech has shed its screws in the past... how it got in there is anybodys guess....past the gaiters and seals...removed and cleaned up mess and drop the oil and refilled with Millers race...
