Looking really good Jon, great work on finding and fixing the inevitable little niggles  :13:

My task for next week - on my back to drop the gearbox on my RX-8 as 12 minutes into my first trackday session at Snetterton last Wednesday I couldn't find any gears  :(  Coasted off on the grass near a Marshall's post and quickly managed to crash into 2nd and then limped off the circuit to avoid a Red Flag. Got my breakdown insurance company to pick the car up and take me home (~60 miles). Strongly suspect the clutch release bearing has collapsed. A new one went in with a new clutch 19-20k miles ago.

I'll post up a separate topic on the issue later....

Couldve done it at end of the day ! Gotta be the bearing or maybe the clutch release fork...seen them bent b4. It does look a bit of a job what with ppf removal etc. The workshop manual has a great write up and i think its a 2 man job without ramp and transmission. I got mine in on my own but no ppf etc its a dead weight. Easy 2 hard 1 person. Your got a clutch alignment tool? If not a socket on an extension built up with insulation tape works a treat.
Good luck youll be fine!

Thanks Jon. Another RX-8 owner up the road is popping down on Wednesday to give me a hand. He's only just up the road and has done the job before AND he has a low transmission trolley, which should make the job a lot easier. I've got an alignment tool for the RX-7 FB and I'm hoping it'll be the some spline count and size. Been reading the workshop manual and will do some internet reading before I start to try and free off bolts on Monday.

I've started another topic to stop hijacking your thread  :)

Well rpm gauge leading me on merry dance....i read an online guide...that wires from dash to rpm gauge direct...sent it screwy...beeper continually going off...must be back feeding somehow....worked a treat with other connectors not plugged in just bridged.
Current fault is goes to 3krpm and no more....does when directly wired!
Other cluster is 2krpm out at end of rev range...goes to other 9k. Lol...mmm what to do.

Mate can you post the link to that online guide as I am in the middle of trying to find out why my speedo and rpm gauge are on and then off and then on again without any reason yet all other gauges in the cluster work fine lol

its baloney mate...atmo...ive thrown towel in for today literally caught in a hail storm!....

if yours is intermitent, id try tightening the screws on the back first.  ill post piccys in a mo.

Work in progress....2nd hand prices of parts on ebay are ridiculous ....£250 for a dash cluster no chance.

as is atmo..hail storm stopped play...but getting no where.

tighten the screws on the back of the board mate...these transfer signals onto the gauges...clean up plug connections on back....only a couple of self tappers and it comes out...gotta contort your arm around back to pull plugs out. try that first

couple of years ago parts where plentiful and cheap...i refuse point blank to pay 250quid for a 20plus year old cluster. ill spend days fixing mine instaed or go after market.

Contemplating putting the other set in they rev to 9k...lol.....theres a pot on the board i may trim that down a bit.

Middle is tacho..3 screw...yours wont have the wires and eyelets i added them today to directly wire.

top right milometer....but give em all a tighten up. if your work but intermitent looks like a loose or dirty contact.

its fairly simple....helps if you have a q/r steering wheel...
remove steering wheel lot easier access.
remove steering cowling..3 screw underneath.
2 screw bottom of dash cluster pull forward and hangin out of car peering through windscreen to unplug connectors....theres probably a milage correction gizmo on the cluster as well to disconnect. ackward 1 is the ciggie lighter.
