Filled the catch tank mate, then came out breather etc ..
Need a bigger tank and someway to return to sump....as Clive has done returning to front plate..but Clive did when off car...
Need a bigger tank...found a 12v gear pump 14lpm self primer and can run dry so may give that a try.  Its surge in the corner right handers that does it.
Apart from that cars sorted for track...

Hi Jon,

As you may know I think I went through 4 or 5 variations of tanks and breather systems till I worked all this out below.

Took some pics for you yesterday, sorry for the delay, here we go.

The specially made restriction  (ok it was an aeroquipe fitting I had laying around ::)) drops down inside the primary filler neck.

This sits far enough in that any oil washing over the top of the inside of the centre iron goes back into the sump and cant wash up the secondary part of the filler neck,

(the restrictor goes in then the secondary part of the filler neck bolts on with the two 6mm bolts),

Next I put a small piece of fuel tank foam into the filler neck before the cap goes on.

Next after playing with various hose sizes I settled on 1/2" id (13mm) for the one and only breather to come out of the engine back to the catch can.

The can now has no baffles inside and as you can see marked with an X, "if" any oil that goes into  the can it drops back into the engine anyway.

You will see from the pictures I have two breather pipes ,marked with an O, ( this could be just one big pipe) the idea being that the outlets add up to being bigger than the inlet to stop any pressure build up.

The two out lets run the whole length of the car and exit at the rear valence, this way if any oil did come out it would no go onto my tyres.

Now just using a stock sump and filling between full and empty and having no more surge issues 8)

All the best Clive

Cheers Clive...yep ill be copying...particulary like the breather all the way to the back of the car idea as a failsafe.

More thought on this....very nervous about drilling my front plate...but i have a redundant oil level sensor as car uses defi gauge for oil pressure....think i could utilise this for return to sump with the oil level sensor housing utilising a hose tail fitting straight to bottom of catch tank?.. just worried gonna surge up this pipe as well....and move new catch tank to this side of engine....mmm. gotta try it as this set up not working. The important thing is the return to sump so as not to run out of oil and a mess free maintenance free solution between track session....1 positive got no rust issues on my chassis bit like an ol scotoiler i had on my fireblade...oil everywhere but the chain...ha ha.

Hi Clive where did you get your catch tank from and does it come with fitting welded on base for return to sump? Cant find anything other than fuel swirl pots ...with correct ports and orientation of ports...
Done some measuring and reckon i can mount by boost sensor if i move it and mount nice and high....plus i have an alloy aftermarket filler neck to drill a port for return oil  there plenty of fall for the oil......when its rebuild time will get front cover drill and a port fitted then...

right friking oil surge.....

well measured up and no room by abs unit to get a natural fall for oil return....had a thought that penny washer may be holding oil up as well,,,, forcing through hole then draining back slowly and then forcing through some more and taking held up oil with it...theres just no room under the bonnet for a decent sized can.....
its gotta breath else gonna blow the sump sealant or summit in engine....

gonna strip oil filler neck off tomoz and stand and look at it and scratch my head and wait for an epiphany to occurr.... :violent1: bolt a catch can on roof would work....

could you not build a larger sump with extra baffles  and only put the same amount of oil in it .....???

Gated sump will work as has solved on Westfield....just not a 5 min job on fd to change as subframe has to come down....looking for a solution to tide me over til rebuild time.
