I read on another forum (1) the following:

"Intake manifold where it attaches to engine block. There is a seal between the two and coolant passages inside going between the intake and engine. The seal gets weak and starts letting coolant into the combustion chamber. That went on mine. $10 fix but a bit of a pain."

How does the LIM and coolant passage relate to each other? I cant see how the LIM would come in contact with coolant passage.

Anyone can shine any light?

Thanks

There is a coolant passage between the engine block and the lim - it\'s for the coolant supply to the turbo.  The seal he\'s talking about is the gasket between the engine and the lim.

If you look at this gasket - you can see the o rings and the circular holes that allow the coolant passages access to the lim.

That is for the 87-88 version - but the later S5 gasket is similar.
