hi, I did a search on this but cant find any conclusive answers, please help me out.

Should I wrap the exhaust? is it worth doing and what are the dangers please? - I hear wrapping the manifold is a bad idea but I have also heard about cars catching fire due to exhaust wrap.

I want to quieten the car down a bit, seems like wrap would help.

Please let me know, thanks

clive

Good quality heat wrap will not catch light.

Yes, there are different schools of thought on heat wrapping, I can tell you that Racing Beat do not recommend that any stainless steel exhausts are wrapped as the steel does not cool down naturally and can lead to cracking so this may help you decision.

On a slightly different note, any heat shielding used just needs a 10-15mm "air gap" to be efficient.

As you can see below personally I had my manifold coated by Zircotech and the heat reduction in the engine bay is staggering but this process does cost a huge amount of money

hope this helps
All the best Clive

yours are very nice, however for me that would require a divorce unfortunately.

My mid pipe is a quality silenced stainless item, the down pipe is a cheap steel one and cheap manifold - the backbox and end section is titanium and very thin.

Thanks

just wrap the downpipe and nothing else, dont wrap the stainless or Ti sections, as Clive said you dont want to risk cracking
