Trappy instead of proving it on the A13, prove it down Santa Pod instead, and post your timing slip on here, I doubt if you will hit 15 seconds or under on the quarter mile. A type R RX7 is much quicker then your Coupe, 13.6-14.0 quarter depending on the driver. Thats like night and day in terms of distance on the strip.

On the 13/03/05 several of the guys from the coupe club will be down santa pod with quite a few of us from the 200sx owners club, it will be a fun day if you want to pop down and put in some good times....................

Dont think we will have any big power 200s there but should be several capable of low 13\'s........  and looking at their site, there may be a 12 second fiat coupe there......

Face it you have a FWD sports car that at best produces 220 brake and is a similar weight, that is 20ish brake down on a UK car [only 120 odd in the country] and 45 down on a stock jap speck [forget about R1, R2 ect, they all produce the same power] If you are going to spout numbers please get them right:reallymad
Please go and play with the other chav cars

I\'m well aware of the figures.
237bhp for the uk spec
255bhp for the jap
265 for the Type-R
until 97-98 when the cranked it up to 280bhp.

All of which had around 212 lbs/ft
of torque, the 280bhp models even less?

Don\'t forget you have about 15 lbs/ft less torque... and we have it from 3,000 rpm, right through the rev band.

I didn\'t get the numbers wrong at anytime...

Wonder if any of the Rex\'s in the coop vs ........ section are on here...

237bhp for the uk spec - correct
255bhp for the jap - correct
265 for the Type-R - from 96 all manual cars had this
until 97-98 when the cranked it up to 280bhp. Not so 280 was available from 99 on the RBS & RS + Spirit R

All of which had around 212 lbs/ft
of torque, the 280bhp models even less? not so

Its a shame you cant get this into your head you are driving a FWD car with a 0 - 60 time of around 6secs a UK spec FD is 5.8 Jap spec 5.2 Jap spec with 265+ 4.9, breeth on them and you will see 4.2 without to much trouble.

I have no doubt you had \'whooped\' an FD at the end of the day it comes down to the driver ability and weather they can be bothered especialy on public roads.
I know this much though park yer self up at a meet / cruse I know which car is going to grab the interest ............. and it aint going to be a Fiat

look lets end all this now Trappy, you talk a good race but in reality you\'re just another FWD coupe that\'ll get eaten and spat out!!!

I can\'t believe you want a rolling start race between 35-85mph or whatever it was. That don\'t mean sh*t!! On Topgear they road tested a FWD Saab that was brilliant between 30-70mph but when the Stig took it out on track it posted crap lap time.

Bottom line is, in a drag race an RX will kill you, on a track day on a race around a circuit i\'ll lap you!!! And if i see you on the street i\'ll roast you :flamed

Let it go Trappy, the Fiat is a good car but it\'s not a true sports car like the REX!!!

:bandit
DRE  :cool

Chico

I\'d like a rolling start please..........but i\'ll be in 5th with my foot flat on the floor and i\'ll win because my FIAT  is a front wheel dive and you won\'t be able to catch me.......

You complete fool........

Sorry to get annoyed peeps but why oh why do some people have to argue the to$$ when they realise they\'ve dropped one and can\'t hold their hands up and say, \'Sorry, I only get let out at weekends and i\'m wrong\'

Crappy, back off, back down and back away.....you\'re out matched, out breaked and out classed......

Peace........

scooby_si

calm down folks we\'re all special in our own ways just some are more in a minibus licking way :rollin lol
We all like good cars & it is quite funny to see a thread in here that seems to be common on every other board.....

Tee hee.

My last car was a standard 20vT coupe, my current car is a standard FD TypeR.

I know which is faster/a better drive.  I have definately upgraded.

Monkey200

I hate front wheel drive it sucks!

However .. I\'ll stick up for the scrabble on this matter. I have been on a trackday with some of the Fiat Coupe lads, they are a nice bunch, and the speed of the cars did surprise me. The SXOC had a SantaPod shootout and depending who you talk too .... well it was pretty even. They quite easily mod to 250/300 BHP with bags of Torque from the 5-pot 20VT, and despite scrabbling off the line get high terminals. ie a stage 1 coupe with 260bhp and 280lb/ft will run a 14.0 @ 106mph. 200SX with 270/270 would run 13.9@104mph.

See Close ;)
Dont discount them, they are fast, and as stated was even on the track with me. I wont say I cant drive, or I can, but heres a vids of me @ Elvington if you want to make your own conclusion.

at Bruntingthorpe I couldnt lose the fastest of the fiats, and he couldnt lose me, we had a great day out, lots of fun. We were both running similar power ~270bhp.

Hello everyone concerned in this "discussion". First things first, I dont really have anything too constructive to add to this thread, but why let that stop anyone. Any car can be fast. Just depends on what has been done to it. There are some insane front wheel drive cars doing crazy things in several countries at the moment and there are also rear wheel drive cars being stupidly quick. Why cant we all except this? I reckon that anyone who says that their car is the fastest thing out and doesnt provide proof is just being over zealous. When the clutch drops......you know the rest.
I personally subscribe to about 4 forums due to the fact I love heaps of different kinds of cars. I did think it was quite interesting that when I logged on tonight to see who was online to see that there were about 20 guests looking at this thread.

So thanks trappy. You have stirred up heaps of interest from non- forum members. Hope you hang about.

   cheers, michael.

Very true, but the thread doesnt really do justice to all the nice RX7 owners out there

No point in getting personal, a car enthusiast is a car enthusiast, just get yourselves on the track ;) and have some fun....

Hopefully we will see lots of you guys at the pod and on various tracks this year :cool

Saw a black fd with yellow foggies, i believe, the other day. Was going past sainsbury\'s A127 bound. I doubled back to catch up but had presumably gone onto the A127 (the opposite way to the copper that was in front of you...). I shot down the Arterial but couldn\'t see you. You must have turned off at the A130???

Looked very clean, nice \'n\' shiny!

Where in the above did Trappy deserve this! The guy was admiring a car and you get all fast and furious about it. lol. I know for a fact that most rex drivers aren\'t like you!

"Oi Trappy, do you really think your car is in the same leauge as an RX??!

A healthy Rex would eat your car for breakfast. I have a UK spec L reg red RX. Bring it on!!!"

Nowhere.  There are some stinking attitudes on this thread and it doesn\'t reflect well on the MRC at all. You should be ashamed of yourselves!

Chico

Ashamed??

I think not.......

An opinion was voiced and then argued and we were merely stating the facts to put it right......

If you\'re gonna try to have a pop at an RX then we were just saying, get the figures right before you start playing that game.....
Yeah front wheel drive\'s can be fast, but it\'s a different game with rear wheel drive........the feel, steering, even the way you have to drive!!

Admittiedly it did get slightly out of hand but like you say, we are all enthusiasts so it was bound to happen.....

I\'m not appologising, i\'m just clarifying......

Peace........

Seen a silver Rex with a similar bodykit to John Yorke\'s a few times this week. He was parked next to a silver prelude over Festival Leisure the other day, bonnets up.
The Red one that i beat a while back used to hang around with a silver prelude. Maybe the guy has got a new one?
Is it anyone on here?
Also saw a Black FD down Hadleigh this afternoon.

I\'d never say front wheel drive is better than rear weel drive, indeed I never did. Hell, I also drive an \'H\' Reg Mazda Roadster. Much more fun to drive than the coop on a sunny day down a windy road. Handling doesn\'t get much better.

The coop was initially a compromise. I wanted something bloody quick, that looked good. It came down to the two but in the end:-

I couldn\'t afford the 13 miles/gallon of the rex.
FDs are far more expensive at the same age and mileage (prob double) and a fare bit more expensive to run
I can\'t garage it so I needed something a bit more understated (all that extra attention can sometimes be undesired).
I needed decent sized rear seats for the kids and me mates.
Fd specialists (of the time) were far too far from my place to be useful to me.
Powerfiat (one of the best coop specialists in england) is within a mile of my house!

Since i\'ve bought it i\'ve raced cars that were miles beyond the scope of the MX5 and now i simply want to have a quick run with a healthy FD. Comfortably outran an N reg M3 this afternoon up the A130 (286bhp- smoking a bit)

Will tell you what happens when i finally meet this silver rex on the road...

First of all... a few months ago I decided to buy some fun... test drove lots... RX7, Scooby WRX, Alfa 3L Turbo GTV, Brand new Alfa GT, 200SX and a beautiful old Ferrari Dino... but when I drove the Coop 20VT just made a connection and bought it... OK so I would have had the Dino if my finances had of stretched;) Reading this thread I\'m sure some of you guys are saying... what a Pr@t! But hey... I\'m a happy Pr@t... some guys like blondes, others prefer brunettes:p

Anyway... back on thread.... it always surprises me how so many people think they can get in a fast car, point it and automatically get performance spec out of it! It\'s about both car and driver... or am I just missing something? Looking at the Coop and RX7 specs I\'d say it would be a good race depending on driver ability and road conditions. My father-in-law used to do some rallying (used to have a Mrk1 Ford Works Escort... The LVX).. I\'d say give him a 175BHP slider thingy and he\'d whoop my ass in either the Coop or the RX7. Even better... get on a real test... a windy road in the Donegal hills and I\'d be just finishing as he is having his third pint of Guinness in the pub!

The moral is... drive, feel the buzz and smile... I know I do in my coop. ;)
