Hi all,

Anyone know how to calculate what size turbo oil restrictor a turbo needs?

I have an ebay turbo (yes i\'ve not learned :spank) and was used in running in the engine. I was not running a restrictor to the turbo and its killed the oil seal in the turbo so now having the turbo rebuilt with new seals and 360 thrust bearing. Its about T04R size ish turbo.

I\'ve had a google but not found anything that looks of use. Anyone got any ideas?

Much appreciated :WaveBye

Did you get any info from the Turbo manufacturer ?   I measured the one for the stock FC Turbo and just picked a oil feed that had the restrictor build in, with similar bore hole size.

Liam. I was having a crack with ash about this last night. He says he wouldn\'t run a restrictor or if he did he wouldn\'t put a big restrictor in (small hole). Maybe do some digging and find out what others have been running for the same size turbo

I don\'t need to upgrade my stock turbo to beat your ass!

Get your finger out, get it on the road and start driving it then!!! (B.Martin 25/2/12)

What oil cooler are you running? I only ask as the turbo is oil cooled aswell as oil lubricated. So by restricting the oil getting to the turbo your gonna see higher temps too. When ash had the same issue he ended up swapping the centre housing on his turbo for a water cooled one to keep the temps down. I think he also modified it to run ceramic ball bearings too :)

If it\'s an HKS T04R, then the top feed has a restrictor built in.  If your turbo had lines fitted when you aquired it, take a look at the feed line - it may well have a restrictor in the top flange.

From what i\'d googled, seems a 1.5mm-1.8mm (2mm max) restrictor would work well.
Off to look for some bit now :)
