Hi everyone,

So after 7 years of wanting one I finally bought an rx7.
It\'s a 1995 import, black, engine rebuilt 5000 ago by Hayward Rotary, single turbo conversion, apexi power fc and the list goes on.
I fully understand how temperamental these cars can be, still had to have one, owned it for two days and the following had happend:

1. HID lights don\'t work, they did on Friday but since then one flickers and the other doesn\'t even turn on! It has the ballast things so don\'t know what\'s going on there!

2. On warm idle and low revs there is a shreaking rattle noise from under the bonnet, did forum search apparently noisy pulleys and belts are common and irritating, but this sounds like its under the intake plenum?

3. Warmed it up, went for a country drive, came back and as I was going into the garage it just started revving Itself, took it out of gear, still did it, gave it a rev and it settled back down.

I\'m new to rotaries so general maintenance info would be great, I.e warming up, Cooling down, tricks/tips and anything to stop it blowing up :)

Other than that, absolutely looooove the thing!
Will post pictures soon.

Welcome to the rotary word! New problem = you brought a rotary hehe

1: could either be the ballast or bulb. try swapping the ballast and narrow down the faulty part. I have spare new ballast if you require. 35W ones. £13.50 posted uk mainland or £20 for 2 posted.

Worth trying to see if the previous owner was on this forum so can see whats been done or what problems they had with the car before it was sold?
2 doritos on a stick woohoo :rollin

Haha yes, the wonderful world of rotaries! I\'ve owned some sweet cars but this is unreal!
So just went to check HIDs, I turned the automatic interior light back on (im notorious for running batteries flat from not shutting doors properly so switched it off) and now the HID\'s work again?! Sooo weird!
I\'m going to post a video of the weird revving on here just now.
Wasn\'t rattling in video as that only happens once I start driving and then on idle when I stop.
I checked out the last owners posts before I bought it, all the issues were prior to him rebuilding it again :)

Hi Kirstie,
The car has just had a new wastegate fitted not by ourselves and was supposed to come back to us for mapping but that never happened so beware as if you keep driving it warranty will be voided. Dont rev it out till we know what it is doing please.
Regards
Carl

Hi Carl, thank you so much for the reply.
I have only driven it back from previous owner and to the shops, not gone over 3/4k rpm yet.
I am in London for the week so won\'t be driving it at all.
Will call you tomorrow to book it in to come have a visit week commencing the 15th July.

Took car to Carl Hayward, turns out the squeaking noise was just a bolt missing down by the wastegate and a hanger was hitting the gearbox at low revs, such a simple fix and it is now remapped! running so sweetly it is amazing!

Big thanks to carl, my car is awesome!

Great news.
Now just enjoy that awsome FD whine on boost.

Welcome to the unpredictable world of rotary heaven.

It would be great if you can make it to Rotorstock and see the many different rotary\'s.
