I\'m just putting out a question to FD owners, if you have taken off the outer door handle and lock unit, you will know how heavy they are.

I\'m thinking of making a mould and producing some carbon fibre units. this isn\'t a confirmed yet but if there is enough people interested I\'ll have a look into it.

the strength and security is the main issue... it might have to be plated with aluminium for security against theft...

any way this is just the first stages of the design.

please let me know if you would be interested..

Jot17

I might be interested but if it\'s a good price but even if it\'s a good price I won\'t be buying them soon, what price are you looking around?

Carbon RX

Im interested as was planning on skinning my existing ones. I know you can get real CF covers but im sure ive seen Real CF units such as you say already too!?! Maybe by RE-A..

allrounda88

i am also interested
want to change most parts to cf
so keep going - sounds great

Not sure on price, really depends on the manufacturing costs. its early stages with this so might be a long while until I can produce a good unit, but I will keep you posted.

interested but will be v hard to make, you could take molds from the inside and outside and replicate the lock in fibre and resin but you might find that the fibre version is not strong or solid enough to hold the lock and catches etc - you might be better off looking at CNC machining from a block of alloy, whatever you do to the lock to make it lighter is going to be a big compromise security, mine is garaged and never left anyway so   Security does not bother me, I have the FEED carbon covers on mine but one fell off on the motorway so I am looking at a solution currently.

Feed do two types, one is a stick on cover and the other is the complete unit. I\'m sure Dave (Sicknote)  has them on one of his.

I believe the complete unit is Farbon where the covers are real CF.

To those worried about the security issue, they could be made out of chocolate and be as secure as standard locks...

The feed complete units are indeed a print where they dip the handles in liquid stuff

True that! Omar (RX junkie) locked himself out of \'One\' of his FD\'s and was about to break the window until i unclipped the lower trim and opened the door with some bottle nosed pliers in under 10 sec\'s ! :o:2Rolleyes

Ok Seems like it could be a plan, don\'t hold your breath on it, il put up a new thread when i finally get a prototype up and running.

Cool Im interested in a pair for the track car
