That looks like a Reliant Scimitar...the early coupe not the GTE sportshatch?  I don\'t remember them being that comfy in the back but then realised the theme was \'family\' cars not \'family cars\'!

If I\'m right can re japi put up something obscure from the tundra?

Re japi - in case of interest:- the number of small UK car companies were partly a product of:
1. Poor supply of the home market after the war because manufacturer\'s steel quotas (everything was rationed) depended on the volume of their exports.

2. As a result of \'1\', the arrival of glass fibre materials for bodywork in the 1950\'s led to an explosion of small firms offering replacement clothes for pre-war Austin 7 and Ford 8 chassis - the birth of the UK specials and kit car industry where brands like Rochdale began.  This in turn kick-started post war motorsport which added more names to the list.

3. Lastly, the tax system meant, with a little work bolting sub assemblies together, buyers could dodge punitive \'new car\' tax rates.  Small makers could keep their costs and the price of a new sports car down to push sales up to a viable level - sometimes very low. Several (like Lotus) offered a "buyer assembled" option right into the sixties.

If not interested ignore this explanation and post something none of us have heard of!:Laugh

That\'s the one jinx, well done:Thumbs-up

Sorry, my use of family was perhaps misleading - in this case as you\'ve worked out, I was referring to those cars owned by members of my family as opposed to what one may describe as a "family car":)

So at jinx\'s invitation, and now mine, perhaps re japi can seek revenge and post something from colder climes.....

re japi

Thanks Jinx, nice little info package :)

Tundra? Damn... :)

Ok, ill try to find something
Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.

Crap! I thought you might fall in to that trick question! :)

Yes it is. Over to Ken :)

I probably would have done but when jinx first suggested inviting you to post something from the tundra I thought I would take an advance look of cars from the region - safe to say that what you posted didn\'t fall into that category:).

Now the chances are you won\'t have seen one of these - but there again...?

jinx

Nothing against Finland\'s engineers or workforce but you do wonder how many Boxster customers know their new car was not built in Germany!  Like those BMW owners who discover their new 6 or 7 series was made in Korea on the track next to the Kia something or other!

Could be worse I suppose - Years ago a friend\'s father was insanely proud of his new 420G Jaguar. It was parked in front of his factory when the lunchtime football went underneath it.  He watched one of his employees reach under his pride and joy to retrieve the ball and when he reappeared he looked up to the office window...
"Did you know your car has \'Export Reject\' stickers all over it underneath boss?"

Those were days when the appropriately named Lofty England, Jaguar\'s customer relations manager, told buyers complaining about rust or paint defects that they had only bought the engine and gearbox - Jaguar just gave them the rest to take it away in.

And no, I don\'t have a clue what that is Ken :D

A good point jinx. Whereas we might expect it with some manufacturers I suspect most owners of German cars would have expected their piece of precision engineering made by the worlds finest engineers to have been produced in Germany.  Even Mercedes allows Mexico not only to produce its range of cars, but also to use locally produced parts - a Mexican Merc...mmm, not sure about that!

QuoteAnd no, I don\'t have a clue what that is Ken
Don\'t worry I wouldn\'t expect you to - in fact until I discovered it I had never heard of it either:evillaugh.  But I was half expecting re japi to give us the answer - and that\'s a clue for everyone else:)

May as well have the full picture:

re japi

Yes, true Jinx. I have read somewhere that Finnish built Boxters has the best quality. Dunno...  Btw, that factory was/is building Merc A-class too. And Fiscer Karma.

And Bmw X5 is built in Usa.

Ken, that is somekind of cartoon car! :) Never seen that...

It does look a little that way....this was back in the era of micro and bubble cars.  This particular one was developed in the late 50\'s but never saw production.  Fitted with a 296cc engine.  And built in Helsinki :).

That\'ll be a Wiima built by Oy Uusi Autokoriteollisuus

Identifying it says more about my use of google search than knowledge of obscure cars :)

That\'s the one Kevin.
Sorry it didn\'t really test the ID skills....as you will have seen it was one I was ever hopeful that re japi may have recognised :).

Nice little piece here about it:

xj220?

A hollow victory for the Sunday Club at Jaguar who allegedly got told to drop it and worked on in secret only to see it launched into the jaws of a recession.
