I read somewhere today that the Autumn edition of TG will be postponed until January so as to not compete with the x factor!

I know its all about ratings and prospective interests in Tv but really, has TG suffered via the hands of x factor?

How do they count for the advent of things like Sky Plus, if you record something, does that still count as a rating?

I have just seen an advert for ANOTHER celebrity big brother and it just grinds my gears that absolute junk like this keeps getting aired. I know i sound like an old moaner by the way, but if i didnt have Sky i think i would be lost.

By the way, what is everyones view of post olympic coverage? However impressive, personally i found you had to sit through too much chat for say 10 seconds of racing (in the extreme), but that seems to be the way these days, programmes starting an hour or more before to hear pre match/race analysis or interviews. I dont have a massive interest in athletics but would have watched a whole lot more if you knew "x" race, cycle event or whatever starts at "x". I missed what i wanted to see because i think the actual listings for what was going to be showed was very poor!

Not much chat on the forum these days :(

Didn\'t spot this the first time round...

I just don\'t think that TG viewers are the same as X factor viewers?  Doesn\'t make one bit of sense...

I think Top Gear are trying to get peak veiwers so they get a better Budget :) I dont think its X factor they are worried about its more a fact a high Veiwing Program is on the other side at the same time and they think it may reduce there peak by 5 or 10%.

I guess it gives them more time to set up some good challenges too.

I hope they do as the last few have been rubbish!

They should make top gear a live phone in programme like crap factor, would have loads more money and stupid people would watch it as it would be more appealing to the stupid people as a reality tv show

jetpilot

By all accounts there will be the compulsory xmas special, but agree with the above, would the people who watch x factor really be the same audience as TG??

Hopefully i have read wrong and there will still be an autumn show!

So would we be waiting a whole year between series? I despise x factor, it has ruined a number of things fOr me, just by the programme starting means that they are counting down to Xmas and Simon Cowell getting no1 again. I enjoy Xmas but its been spoilt by that crap. It has also ruined good drama tv as everything is reality type tv shows. Programmes like sharp, hornblower, heroes, lost, prison break etc there just isnt any of these good programmes any more :(

Top gear may be waiting for the release of some more super cars, I don\'t think there have been any released in while? As top gear is all about super cars not boring every day cars.

jetpilot

You could be right with the supercar comment, but they usual fill in with other stuff, challenges etc

I think i hate reality tv as much as you dude, i enjoy (moderately) the first series to most things as its got a new feel to it, but most of this reality stuff is just the same old thing with different people. I guess you could say the same with TG, but at least most challenges follow a new theme, usually funny and there are always exotica to be seen on track :)

Long gone are some good series like you mention, mind you even Lost started to go off on a very weird tangent and wasnt that on Sky anyway?

The only things i watch on terrestrial tv are TG, wildlife/planet/science docs and the odd film, nothing with regularity :(

Grant Monkhouse

Lost was on sky but I did enjoy it, it was the only programme where I couldn\'t actually predict what was going to happen, which is the case with most programmes/films these days. The only thing about lost that confused me was the very end.

TG might have been on for a long time but doesn\'t fall under the money making gunf which is spiralled across all 400 channels we now have available. They spend a lot of money on TG, the only money that the bbc gets is what we pay for tv licence as far as I know as there is no advertising, apart from there own tv programmes in between they\'re programmes.

I used to watch big brother but it became a joke, watching a bunch of weirdos getting famous for sitting in a house whilst channel 4/5 make millions off the phone in.

I barely watch tv these days because of all the crap, I mainly watch DVDs to to cinema or play on my Xbox. Everything else just irritates me to boredom

TG has one of the biggest budgets available, because its sold to nearly every country in the world.  Dont think they would care if it competed with any other channel, TG watchers only get 6 episodes every 6months!

Decided i need a car fix, so watched the new episode of 5th gear on Sky any time, how incredibly dull are that lot (maybe not Tiff) :(

m1tch

It would actually be good if they did some normal reviews like the older top gears, its all well and good trying to get across the channel in a cobbled together car, but if I am in the market for a small well speced car I need to look elsewhere rather than a BBCs own motoring program.

How about Hammond, May and Jeremy auditioning On X Factor........singin some cheese !

I only like the Crap ones that think there good !
