I\'ve just heard that the legal limit for exhaust notes is 82DB

Does this effect many of the rotary exhausts?

To me that doesnt seem very loud.

The words pinch and salt come to mind!

That may be a homologation limit that new cars have to pass under for type approval but there\'s no test for how loud a car is as part of its legality for going on the public road, as part of the MOT for instance.  With an extremely loud car you could be liable for prosecution under the noise abatement laws as nuisance noise however that requires your neighbours to complain about it.  For instance if your bridgeported 13B Single Turbo RX7 is running a 4" bore pipe from the Turbo back and you\'re insisting on letting it warm up before running it a 7000 rpm in your garage for 20 minutes then you\'re probably going to get some form of trouble.  However if you\'re just driving it legally then it\'s not going to be a problem.

Apparently putting details of your car spec in your signature means the nice folks on exile-rotorsport think you\'re a fool.  I can think of no higher compliment!

Exhaust noise is part of the Mot now, according to my test station (friends by the way) but very much down to testers own interpretation of what he thinks is too loud!

i come accross this mot cars all the time, the wording is as i remember is- your exhaust must not be considerabily louder than a standard car of the same nature with an exhaust system in average condition. but yea you are right its up to individual testers, i usually just pass them personally, although when you start fitting large bore systems on your car during the emissions test it will fail on lambda as there is so much space in there, an exhaust with a hole in it will also fail lambda too, go figure

Fired the rex up on the ramps last year to put it on the brake tester and it always kicks up to 1200rpm, then settles at 900.... My tester turned to me and said I was lucky the boss wasn\'t there or he would have faild it!!
