Hi Chaps,
Anyone know where I can get some bumpsteer correction track rod ends for my FD3? Preferably in the UK but if not abroad? I need to lower my rack for my conversion.

Help please!

Cheers
Lee

4packet

From the States and fixed length which may be an issue depending on how much you are lowering the rack. Ignore the rack spacers in the middle of the image.

I think Hinson in the States can also supply these, but quality is probably inferior.

That cannot be the only option surely? I can see a DIY coming on here!
Anyone else..

I used to do them with proper joints etc but people don\'t want to pay for good parts just want to pay eBay prices so I stopped doing them . Shame they work very well , I can do more but have to buy the Cnc bits in orders of 20 so ten cars worth

Hi,
I have a set of the Samberg arms which are very good quality (as seen above) brand new unused you can have for £110 Inc postage. Less than I paid and you won’t be stung for import duty etc

After a bit of a search it looks like the setting for the kit is for a rack lowered by 5/8ths of an inch but the spacer collar could be replaced to give more or less. Happy to take some pics if you are interested.

Thanks Spartacus. What drop do they allow for on the rack? I would prefer adjustment is the only thing. What is the ally block in the kit for as well? Lowering the Anti-roll bar mount? Or is that kit to raise the rack?

Tinker. Can you share where you were getting your rod ends from. I think I might ask my machinest a price to turn up some stubs.. He is very reasonable.
What did yours come out at as a pair out of interest? Were they adjustable?

The collar that comes with my kit allows for a 5/8ths of an inch (15.875mm) drop but you can change or machine the slip on collar for more or less drop. The ally blocks were to use with Sambergs subframe so you do not need those and I never ordered them. The pics he has now of his ends have a solid collar which you can’t change but he has changed his design since I got mine and my set does allow adjustment.

Just a quick note, you will need at least 17 inch wheels to fit these ends inside.

Do you know what the max drop you could run with this is? Depends how they have been designed and made? Is it in theory infinite adjustment with the use of a different collar and I presume it has a through bolt? Can you post a picture please?

Thank you

I would say the max drop would be approx 19mm and the least drop would be approx 4mm. How much drop do you think you need? As you can see from pic the ball joint and rod end are much bigger and beefier than the Mazda ones.

Cheers for the pictures. I will hopefully get my rack in and be able to have  measure I estimate about 3/4" so it will be very close!
It looks to me like these have an internal sleeve that is thread inside and outside to give adjustment of the rod end? Quite heavy duty looking for sure!

Yes there is an internal threaded sleeve but that is just to get it to mate up to the Mazda rack ends, you would adjust them as you would normally by turning the whole fitment in or out.

Presume you are not in a panic to sell your rod ends? I got the engine re-mounted today and cut the sub-frame to reposition the rack but I still have a foul up on the sump by just enough for it not to fit! So I either need to tweak the sump or make sure the mounts are not pulling the engine back. Then I can check how far I need to drop the rack by. It is looking around the 3/4" mark though which would be very much on the limit of adjustment for your rod ends I think.

Spartacus

Nope not in any hurry although now that I have sold my car I\'m trying to sell of all the spares I have for it one buy one.

Just a thought, in one of your posts you mentioned about the fitting on top of the rack. I did read a while ago that you can take a fair bit off of it without problems and also you can rotate the rack a bit to angle that fitting away from the sump if that helps?

leeroy_25

Thanks Spartacus.. My rack is in bits with the fitting cut off and repositioned!
Clamping area also modified.
Have you done a 20B conversion? If so what sub-frame set-up did you use?

Cheers

Sorry no, I\'m from the dark side and did a LS1 V8 conversion:eek
