Hey Guys,

Thought i\'d post my experience with Pip at WGT the other day. I managed to get down to see him on my way to Devon so used it as a good excuse to pop in.

First off really nice guy. Very welcoming and knows his stuff. I was only there for about 15mins but got a lot of info from him.

Think i shocked him a little for the fact my automatic has an Apexi ecu in it. He said this is good fo the future however asked me if the gear changes where bad and i replied yes. He told me that because the Apexi isnt compatable with the ECU that controls the gearbox the Apexi cant do any of the normal things that would take place then the gearbox wants to change gears because theres no communication between the two. He told me that the gears box would probably be destroyed if i continued to drive it like it is and suggested an auto to manual conversion.

Luckily thats one of the main things i want to do :Laugh i ws very suprised with the pricing, the whole conversion is said to cost £1000 to do however this is without diff, with diff he said budget for approx £1500. Thats like half of what i originally thought.

Like i said very nice guy and very helpful. Will certainly be looking forward to getting the rex in for the conversion i hope soon.

Cheers

Mike

If you can find out exactly is involved I would be interested, cos at £1000 at WGT Prices, it can\'t be that difficult. I have been reading about changin complete ring looms and stuff but I guess could just re-pin some connectors.

Well Pip mentioned £500 labour and the est parts. So it cant be a huge job. I just dont see why a new wiring loom is needed? Could the ecu just be retuned?

I could be wrong on this one as i know its an on going arguement. However i must admit Pip has done quite a few of these so something which is simple to him is probs because he now has the hang of doing it because he has done many before.

I know it would take someone like me many weekends to do a job like that.

Using 2nd hand items your probably looking at £500 on parts for everything to do the conversion.  Most DIYers have no problem doing a swap over a weekend.  A garage should do it in a day on the ramp with all the parts there ready to go.

Well I have most of the parts (all except the gear box, clutch and fly wheel actually), but it is the wires I think I am going to have a problem with.

Do you know what I will need to do to get it running properly?

This would be a massive help. I will even write a DIY how to for everyone else on the forum.

From what I have read is the manual loom in the dash won\'t join the auto car loom.

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks

Im not sure if i could trust myself to do a job like this. If im honest i would give it a go, However its all the hassle of removing the engine etc.

Yeah he said this is with all second hand parts which i dont mind at all. It would be great if i couldjust get all the parts myself and then just get pip to do the work. Saves him looking round for second hand bits and it splits the cost for me as i can get certain bits each month.
