Do you know what the specs are on the new turbo? I know they have a 72mm available now, billet wheels etc. Is a journal bearing turbo or are you going for an EFR with the dual ceramic ball bearings??

This EFRs are making rotaries produce great torque curves btw, more area under the curve as they say

Don't know what the spec is as yet, Pip and the owner of AET have been bat and  balling about the spec and I know they have changed the wheel on the back and gone for a non conventional housing at the last minute. Pip has been overlaying my mapp against others as he is trying very hard to give me  much lower bottom end good middle without losing too much if any from the top end.

It's great that Pip has actually had an interest in the car and we have talked after most races over the last year or so. At the end of the day if this turbo delivers and I go faster, I'm not too interested in the spec  ;).

I am also plumbing the wastegate back into the Adaptronic ECU so he can map wategate duration, this is somthing he has wanted to do for ages.

Everything is coming along, I revamped the fuel system today, fitting the new Mazda pump assembly, new 044 and a monster filter to catch anything left in the tank.

From what I found, I now believe my fuel metal halfords fuel cans have been the culprit, so I now need to find some good size plastic cans. I waved a big magnet around and found some fine metal, almost like powder. Even though I filter my fuel the mesh would not have been fine enough to catch this stuff.

Just waiting for my mate Steve to machine the housing for the V band then I will have Brise weld it on and then I should have the car up n running and off up to Pip's for a new map.

Arrrgggg, thanks Jon, BUT ------------------literally 2  minutes ago I bought these 5 20L cans off ebay  :(    ( Could do with two more though for the extra long races I sometimes do though thank you.

Well we are getting there, close enough to call Pip tomorrow to arrange mapping hopefully next Friday if he can fit me in.

The big challenge  became getting the back of the Turbo cut off at the correct angle then getting the V band adaptor welded back on in the right place.

All fits now and bolted up 100%, but the feed for the oil pipe was wrong despite AET thinking it  was the same :(, so I cant actually fire the car till Tuesday or Wednesday when I can get an adaptor as it turns out its a pig thread that hose fitting company's locally have never heard of  ???

Casey

Ooooooh, shiney  8) Looks good and pleased to hear you're making good progress - except for the weird screw thread issue holding things up - there had to be something to spoil the party  ;)

Sadly not only waiting for the weird oil union but after speaking to Pip today I also cant get the car mapped till at least the week after next.

Christine cant go to the ball just yet as Pip is off to Denmark to mapp cars next week, something that's  becoming more and more regular out in Europe for him.

Looking back, the reluctant Christine during her early adolescent kept throwing hissy fits till the mapping was sorted !, then set herself alight!, then embarked on various pirouettes until we found one of her back legs was out of line, also getting attacked along the way by an MR2, a Civic and lastly a Clio!, then over the last three races, tried to choke to death with a blocked fuel system !!!!!!! but we are both still out there fighting  >:D.

And a Race Win!

Christine obviously forgets herself at Brands, as a Pole Position and a Race Win has been produced ;)

Been a painful few weeks with "Christeen" who has proved to be as recalcitrant as ever!,

With new Turbo, new Mazda pump assembly and a new Bosch 044 up at WGT I should have been on the Dyno for like an hour for just a cleanup of the map, really just to program the ECU to accept the new Turbo----------------Wrong, as I was not allowing for a  Christeen hissy fit  :angryfire:

After initially building a new base map, as soon as Pip started seriously mapping he found that at just 6000 revs the injectors had run out of fuel and were working flat out at 98% duty.

Last Wednesday I spent something like seven hours working with Pip before the long drive home with both of us logically thinking "it must be the fuel system"
Just before I left we found a trailing plug not firing but I knew this wasn't the fault.

With lots of investigative work and three and a half days working on the car the car is now mapped finally, so much for we only need an hour to get a quick remap.

Turns out the the injector wiring had corroded and was found to be green as soon as the covering was bared back there was the fault, the ECU was unable to give the injectors the correct information and was giving false positives, something Pip or myself had never seen before.
Turned out the coil wiring  had gone the same way so the car now has a fresh engine loom.

As soon as this was sorted the injectors went from 98% duty cycle straight down to just 65% and was able to be remapped and you can see the fresh dyno sheet below, with still more to come as Pip wants me to plumb the wastegate completely differently and have another visit over the winter.
Bottom line is, had I just put the new pumps on and tried to race the engine would have gone bang and although lots of work and money has been spent I still have a good engine and can go and race at Donnington next Saturday  :)

Loads to do over the next week with no front or rear on the car plus I need to strip all the suspension again its now going to be a push to get the car ready after losing it for the last week up at Pips,

Its only Pips mapping skill that has kept me from a grenaded engine  8)   and I now have an engine that has more mid range, holds boost and has more low down power which was the object of the exercise, so looking forward to how it now performs on track . :13:

Pip will also be attending next week for support.

I was all the stock wiring gone bad Jon, not anything you did.
Looks like I just picked a bad loom last time it was changed.
Mind you I can see RX-8's having issues with coil and injector power.
